Divorce Me I'm Done Serving You (Ayla and Troy) novel Chapter 891

"I feel like everything tastes bland right now, but I can still taste how sweet the cake is."

"Then eat more of it," James said.

Halle glanced at him. "Okay."

James checked his phone. "I'll cook dinner for you tonight."

Halle raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "You always bring Wilfrid along to cook for you wherever you go. And now you're saying you can cook yourself?"

James answered honestly, "I admit I haven't cooked much before, but I can learn."

Halle looked curious. "Is it because you think it's a hassle, or just a waste of time?"

James shrugged. "Isn't everything a waste of time in some way? That's just how life is. If I feel like cooking today to pass the time, then I'll do it. I don't overthink it."

He reached out and lightly flicked her forehead. "If you want to feel better, you've got to relax a little. You can't stay this tense every day. You should hang out with me more. Stop thinking so much and just enjoy life."

Halle had never been the type who could sit still.

It wasn't that she was too busy to have time for herself. It was that the moment she slowed down, she would feel a hint of anxiety. So, she filled her schedule to the brim, leaving no space for emotions to catch up with her.

Because of that, she rarely had time to enjoy the simple, boring moments in life.

She was still young, so she never thought this kind of lifestyle was exhausting.

But now, with Benjamin gone, she needed rest. She needed time to recover so she could stand strong again.

Still, old habits were hard to break.

Even when she was lying down, her mind kept racing. That kind of "rest" didn't help at all. She was still tired.

James could see that she couldn't relax.

But strangely, after saying it out loud, Halle felt a little relief. Admitting it made her feel less tense.

"So what should I do?" she asked.

James replied, "Do whatever you feel like doing."

Halle frowned. "That's basically the same as doing nothing."

James patiently coaxed her, "If you want to zone out, then zone out. If you want to sleep, then sleep. If you're tired, say you're tired. If you want to cry, then cry out loud. If you need help, just ask. Don't hold back your feelings, especially what your body is telling you. If you can do that, you'll start to relax."

Halle froze for a moment after hearing that. No one had ever comforted her like this before.

His words gave her a lot to think about.

James looked at her. "You feel really comfortable around me, don't you?"

"I just complimented you. Don't get too proud," Halle said.

James clicked his tongue. "The fact that you didn't let me help when your dad passed away just means I need to try even harder to get into your heart. I want to be the first person you think of when something happens. Right now, I feel kind of insecure. No way I'd get proud."

Halle had to admit—his words really did comfort her.

She lacked a sense of security, so she kept needing reassurance that someone would truly choose her.

After everything that had happened recently, she felt like she finally had her answer.

James was reliable. The warmth he gave her was something she had longed for since she was a child. More importantly, he truly stayed by her side—not just for something physical.

To be honest, anyone could chase excitement.

But it was rare to find someone who could sit with you through boring moments and still make them feel easy and peaceful.

Halle looked at him. "Thank you for staying with me."

James looked back at her gently. "You don't have to thank me. You know what I'm like—I only do things I want to do. Being here with you is something I choose. It makes me happy. So really, I should be the one thanking you."
