Chapter 104 The Sister Who Shows Up Swinging

Ayla stared at him, bewildered.

Kaleb snapped, “Emmett, get her out of here. If you ever sneak her in again, you can go too.”

Emmett froze. “Kaleb, calm down. Ayla is already here. How am I supposed to throw her out?”

Ayla looked from Kaleb to Emmett and understood. “So you ignored everything I told you.”

Emmett didn’t dare admit it. “Ayla, no. I just … didn’t think you’d really help us.”

Kaleb’s brows tightened as he glared at Ayla. “You actually know what you’re doing?”

“Yes.”

“You’re just an undergrad from Agron University. Not even an honors grad. How could you possibly handle this job?” Kaleb didn’t believe a word of it.

Ayla walked up to his desk. His eyes were sharp like a wolf ready to bite. Weirdly, she found it cute. She smiled. “Kaleb, you’ve ignored me for years. How do you know so much about my life? Secretly keeping tabs on me?”

His face stiffened. “Quit dreaming. Why would I care about you? Cutting ties with you can’t happen fast enough.”

“Right. Dawn of time to now, you can’t say one nice thing to me.”

Ayla glanced at the time, realizing she was wasting breath. “Take me to your tech department. I’ll patch the hole tonight. Over the next few days, I’ll rebuild your firewall.”

Kaleb knew exactly how dangerous this breach was. She said it so lightly, like it was a three-day homework assignment. If she really had the skills, fine. But he was certain she didn’t. It felt like she was mocking him.

He was already angry and stressed. Ayla showing up only made it worse.

He swallowed the fire in his chest. “Fine. I’ll take you.”

The tech staff had seen Ayla yesterday. After hearing her brag about finishing repairs and rebuilding the firewall in one week, everyone assumed she was delusional:

Now Kaleb actually brought her in himself. Could she really be good?

“Mr. Keaton, is she some top expert you hired?”

Kaleb shot Ayla a sideways look. “Didn’t you say you could handle it? Go on. Show them.”

Ayla curled her lips in a cold smile at him.

“What are you laughing at? Didn’t you want to act all impressive?”

Ayla pinched his arm hard. “Talk like a human.”

For a second Kaleb flashed back to childhood, when she bullied him all the time. His face twitched. Then he snapped, “No!”

It hurt like hell.

The tech team fell silent.

Everyone knew Kaleb and Emmett were the founders. Emmett was easy to get along with so no one was afraid of him. Kaleb was the opposite.

He was cold and had a bad temper.

So most of the time, Kaleb was the one calling the shots, and nobody dared to fool around when he was nearby.

So Ayla pinching him like that was unbelievable.

Kaleb was rough but detail-oriented, young and arrogant. Nobody in the company could keep him in check.

The tech department had been suffocating under the crisis for days. The director tried to lighten the mood. “Mr. Keaton, is this your girlfriend?”

Ayla stared at him.

What kind of people had Kaleb hired?

Kaleb grabbed a stack of folders and threw them at the director. “Watch your mouth. You want lightning to strike you?”

The director blinked. “It’s that serious?”

He looked helplessly at Emmett.

Emmett slapped his arm. “She’s Mr. Keaton’s sister, Ayla. Open your eyes. They look almost identical.”

“Huh?” The director looked again.

Same eyes. Same expression. Kaleb’s features were sharper, which made his stare more intimidating.

The director flushed and apologized profusely,

Ayla pulled out her thick laptop and set it down. “Let’s start.”

The director looked at Kaleb, panicked.

She’s actually serious?

The database had collapsed. They were drowning in work. They didn’t have time to babysit the boss’s
