Emmett talked like 300 million was pocket change. He quickly explained, “Once our game goes live, money will start rolling in. The company will finally be steady. It’ll all work out!”
Ayla didn’t argue. “Alright.”
They talked for a while. Kaleb was already getting annoyed. When they came back, Emmett was grinning like crazy, and Kaleb shot him a killer look.
Kaleb questioned Emmett, “What did my sister tell you?”
“She said I’m basically her brother because I’m nice and always flattering. How could I not be happy?”
Kaleb had no words for that.
Then the three of them headed to a restaurant.
It didn’t happen often. Ayla hadn’t sat down to eat with Kaleb in ages.
Kaleb’s face stayed cold, like some cool villain.
Staring at him too long ruined the vibe, so Ayla focused on Emmett instead.
Soon, the atmosphere around their table got heavier.
It was a weekend night and crazy packed, so they couldn’t get a private room. They sat out in the main area. Zane was eating with his group and caught sight of Kaleb’s icy expression.
Zane had already asked around. For the whole week, Kaleb and Emmett never showed up to see any other tech pros. It was obvious they were either broke or didn’t know anyone else who could help. With that leftover group of sloppy developers in their company, there was zero chance the issue would get fixed soon.
Their progress would hit a wall sooner or later.
Just thinking about that put Zane in a great mood. He swaggered over.
Kaleb shot him a cold stare, but Zane just grinned. “If you sell that lame game now, you can still get some money for it. If you wait too long, it’ll be worth nothing. But relax, Mr. Keaton. Whenever you’re ready to dump it, I’ll buy it.”
Kaleb was already annoyed. Zane’s showing up made him want to explode.

Ayla cut in sharply. “No clowns needed here. Get lost.”
Zane’s grin stopped mid-air. He didn’t think she’d snap like that.
Talk back? She wouldn’t care.

Touch her? That would be stupid. Kaleb was right next to her. Zane wouldn’t even brush her hair before Kaleb punched him.
His face twisted through a bunch of looks. Then he laughed at Kaleb, “Some tough guy you are. Letting your sister protect you, huh? No wonder you’re failing. I’ll be around when your business crashes.”
He waved to his friends and walked somewhere else..
Ayla noticed Kaleb looked dark. She said calmly, “He’ll be the one choking on his words later.”
Kaleb knew Ayla would make Zane pay someday, and he was looking forward to it. “Besides wasting money, what does his trash company even have?”
Emmett joked, “Sounds like you’re jealous. Regretting saying no to Mr. Lawson?”
Kaleb was ready to snap back, but Ayla suddenly said, “I’ll give you 300 million. Why are you worried?”
Kaleb had been in a pretty good mood this week. The database problem was solved. Then, they had a meeting with a top VC today.
Even though Max showed up, Ayla rejecting him right away kept Kaleb chill.
Zane talked trash, but he looked like a clown doing it. Kaleb wasn’t truly mad.
Plus, Ayla told him she wouldn’t let Max laugh at him.
Kaleb didn’t show it, but he liked hearing that. He always reacted better to kindness than pressure. If she treated him nicely, he’d return the favor.
But Emmett—the guy without a big sister-kept interrupting before Kaleb could say anything back to Ayla.
So when Ayla said that about the money, Kaleb figured she was just comforting him.
He was her only brother, after all.
She wasn’t spoiling Emmett for sure.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
