Yesterday, seeing Troy had stirred her emotions, but now she felt completely calm. She didn’t avoid his gaze, and she knew Skyla was watching her too. She just said to Troy, “I’ll pick you up at your office at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.”
Troy didn’t say anything. He didn’t show any emotion at all as he looked at her coldly.
Ayla said nothing more. She walked right past Troy and Skyla, opened her car door, got in, and drove
away.
Troy watched as Ayla drove away, not doing anything.
Yesterday, he’d already talked himself into it-Ayla was upset over the miscarriage and Skyla’s return, and she happened to be working at Storm Group, so Draven had taken advantage of that and used her. Ayla was just mad at him, so she played along with Draven. That’s why she’d been so bold in challenging him this past month.
Troy had also convinced himself that Ayla wouldn’t have the heart to really divorce him. But now, she had just told him when they’d meet tomorrow.
It was obvious-they were going to the courthouse.
For a moment, Troy just went blank. By the time he snapped out of it, Ayla was already gone.
“Troy …”
Troy turned to look at Skyla.
Skyla said, “I called you several times. Didn’t you hear me?”
He really hadn’t heard her.
Snapped out of his daze, Troy just felt it was all so ironic. If Ayla really wanted a divorce, he totally supported it. He would never be the one to hang on. Besides, he didn’t even love Ayla, so he had no motivation to beg her to stay.
Skyla said, “Let’s keep looking at houses. I really like these townhouses on this street …”
Troy blurted out, “Let’s go with that apartment we just saw. It’s close to your office.”
Skyla actually preferred a townhouse, but since Troy was giving the place to her as a gift, she’d accept the apartment.
The two of them followed the real estate manager to sign the contract. As they left, Troy couldn’t help glancing in the direction Ayla had gone.

Skyla noticed, but didn’t say anything.
She knew Ayla had truly made up her mind about the divorce.
Tomorrow, they’d finally make it official.
Troy wasn’t trying to stop her either-otherwise, he wouldn’t be buying Skyla a place right now.
If Troy ever tried to keep Ayla, that would be the real surprise.

Ayla drove away. Her plan was to go home and keep working on her thesis, but for some reason, she felt this tight, breathless pressure in her chest. Even though she meant to head straight home, her car just kept going, farther and farther, with no real destination.
Soft music was playing in the car, and Ayla didn’t even notice when the tears started to fall.
She didn’t even know why she was crying.
She didn’t feel like she had anything to be sad about. She felt calm, even peaceful, and it wasn’t the kind of heartbreak that left her sobbing … She just cried quietly.
Ayla wondered if she was grieving for Troy, or if she was saying goodbye to her own past.
She didn’t know. Maybe it was both, or maybe it was just a sudden wave of emotion, the kind that came out of nowhere, like hormones during her period. She couldn’t explain it. Maybe people were just complicated like that.
But there was one thing she knew for sure.
She never wanted to go back.
She slowly let go of all the dreams she’d ever had about Troy, clearing them out of her mind bit by bit, facing reality at last.
Ayla spent the afternoon driving aimlessly. After her feelings had settled down, she finally decided to head
home.
When she turned on the GPS, she realized she’d made it all the way to the outskirts-she was an hour and
a half from home.
There weren’t many cars on the road out here.
Suddenly, a Lamborghini started following her. Ayla checked her rearview mirror but couldn’t see who it
was.
She hit the gas, and when the car caught up, she swerved at the last second. Through the small angle, she caught a glimpse of Bria’s hyped face.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
