Even though no one wanted to admit it, Draven’s presence was powerful. It wasn’t something you could explain. Some people looked easy to push around. Draven was the opposite-just one glance, and you knew he was someone you’d never want to mess with unless you were crazy.
Emmett didn’t dare look at Draven, so he walked ahead and led the way.
Kaleb stayed behind them, matching Draven’s pace. Since Draven was taller than him, Kaleb felt like he was being pushed down again. It made him even more annoyed.
“You really planned all this out, didn’t you?” Kaleb muttered.
Draven said, “As long as Ayla doesn’t hear it, it’s fine.”
Kaleb stared at him, shocked. Draven’s face didn’t show a single hint of emotion. He was shameless and didn’t even try to hide it.
Kaleb wanted to curse him out, but maybe because he had already read Draven’s résumé, he couldn’t say any of the insults he wanted to. Draven was undeniably impressive at work.
But being successful didn’t mean he was a good person.
Troy was successful, too. That didn’t stop him from being absolute trash.
Kaleb wasn’t about to let his guard down around Draven.
Kaleb said, “I’m warning you, if you dare hurt Ayla or play her, I won’t let you off.”
Kaleb knew he wasn’t better than Draven in anything. But when it came to protecting Ayla, he would risk everything.
Draven replied calmly, “Relax. I wouldn’t dare.”
Kaleb expected him to say something arrogant, but he didn’t. That alone showed his attitude wasn’t bad.
For someone so powerful and so successful, the fact that he didn’t act proud or look down on others was
rare.
Still, Kaleb didn’t hold back. “If you don’t dare, then why are you here?”
“Herman really did have something come up,” Draven said.
“And you think I’ll believe you?” Kaleb shot back.
Kaleb looked dead serious. Draven found it amusing. He had seen too much scheming in the business world. Most people were either scared of him or tried to please him.
But Kaleb was different.
He had his own personality, wasn’t afraid of Draven, and stood firm when it came to Ayla. He never tried

to flatter. He simply acted like himself.
Draven admired that.
And anyone who treated Ayla well was automatically someone Draven wanted on his side.
So it didn’t matter whether Kaleb was polite or not.
Draven said lazily, teasing him, “You don’t have to believe everything.”
Kaleb almost choked.
That meant Draven was admitting he was only half trustworthy.
So annoying!

Every time Kaleb talked to Draven, he felt like he was losing control. Not only did he gain nothing, but he also always ended up being the one led around.
Why?
He was already being extra careful.
Emmett noticed Kaleb and Draven talking, but he couldn’t hear the details. Still, he was shocked that Kaleb didn’t seem scared of Draven at all.
While he was thinking, they reached the private room.
Emmett opened the door. “Mr. Storm, this way, please.”
Draven walked in.
Emmett stopped Kaleb at the door and gave him a wild look. “What is going on with you?”
Kaleb was already annoyed, so he joked in a dark tone, “If I fought Draven, do you think I’d win?”
Emmett stared at him. “Are you insane?”
He had no words.
Ayla had been waiting for Herman. She didn’t expect Draven to show up instead-and by himself. She stood up right away, shocked. “Mr. Storm, why are you here?”
Halle also jumped up in surprise. She raised her hand instantly. “Hello, Mr. Storm! Do you still remember
me?”
Draven shook her hand politely. “Of course. You’re Ayla’s best friend.”
Halle lit up and grabbed Ayla’s sleeve in excitement.
Last time she sat at the same el
dinner table as Draven, even Conrad asked her out afterward.

Now she was actually going to have dinner at the same table as Draven again. Halle felt like she was dreaming.
Draven explained. “Herman had something to take care of.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
