Chapter 36 It’s You Who Came in Between
Juliet saw Troy in the video, fully aware of his identity, but her expression did not change; she even smiled.
“Then enjoy your meal with your friend. I won’t bother you.”
“Okay. Oh, Juliet, I won’t be coming back tonight. If my dad asks, please tell him I was just hanging out with a friend. Thanks.”
“Take good care of yourself, don’t get hurt like the other night. Both your dad and I would worry.”
Ayla’s eyelids lifted slightly.
Skyla got hurt at home, and Troy went over in the middle of the night-Juliet must have known.
“Mm, don’t worry, Juliet. I can take care of myself. Even if I can’t …
Troy finished her sentence. “She’s got me here.”
Juliet looked pleased. “I understand.”
The video ended there.
As soon as Ayla entered the room, her gaze stayed on Juliet’s face.
The face shape, the nose, the mouth, the gentle expression-all almost identical to her mother’s.
Only the eyes were different.
Her mother’s eyes had sharper lines, colder; her aunt had beautiful, slightly seductive eyes.
Even at 40, she looked just over 30. She was such a stunning woman.
Juliet looked happily at her long-unseen niece. “When did you get here?”
“I came when you said you’d be giving Skyla her birthday gift.”
Juliet did not respond.
Ayla stared at Juliet without blinking, her gaze a straight line. “Do you remember my birthday was last month?”

Juliet’s eyes wavered slightly under Ayla’s cold, quiet stare.
“I’ve just been too busy.”
“If it’s important in your heart, no matter how busy you are, you’d remember. Like me, I remember your birthday.”
Juliet’s expression turned cold. “Ayla, what do you mean by that? Are you blaming me?”
Seeing her face change, Ayla realized she was jealous.
She had not felt jealous when Troy was with Skyla; she had just accepted it, and stepped back after the divorce.
But her aunt, a relative who looked so much like her mother… She could not help wanting a bit of her attention and love.
A little jealousy was not too much, right?
And it was just about her birthday; she had not even mentioned Troy, yet Juliet got defensive…

Ayla clenched her hands and whispered, “I want to blame you, but I have no right.”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
