Chapter 68 Donations
The final part of the night was the group photo. Anyone who did not want to stay could leave early.
Draven had zero interest in photos.
Halle left ahead of time and offered him her hand.
Draven shook it. He gave her respect.
She had expected him to tell her to get out of his way, so she froze for a moment.
She lowered her voice. “Mr. Storm, Ayla only asked the staff to seat me at your table because of me. I used your name. If anyone should get blamed, it should be me.”
She added, “Will has known me for years. He knows who I am. I promise you Ayla is kind. She does not mean harm. I hope you can let this go.”
Draven studied her quietly.
She knew how to play this game. She waited until everything was over, until she knew he would let it slide for Will’s sake.
Draven pulled his hand back and said nothing.
Halle did not push for more. She walked away.
Draven shaking her hand was already more respect than she expected. Tonight had gone perfectly for her.
She turned and met Skyla’s cold stare.
Oh, please.
Halle smirked, lifted her chin, and walked off without hiding her attitude.
She took three steps before she was surrounded. The companies that once ignored her now rushed forward.
Halle could not stop smiling.
Storm Group and the Zheron heirs had real power.
She accepted the attention and decided she would treat Ayla even better after this.
Skyla watched Halle glow in the middle of the crowd. Her hands curled tight.
She was angry, but she also understood after tonight, Halle would have support everywhere.
Troy would not attack Halle just because she glared at Skyla anymore.
If she pushed it, she would look petty. She would look jealous. She would look small.

She bit down hard.
That woman.
She waited for the day Halle would fall.
Donation time wrapped up, but many stayed to trade contacts. Making connections was never a bad idea.
Draven got pulled aside.
Will stepped in to help.
Ayla moved back and looked around the room.
Troy talked with Helena. After a few lines, he introduced Skyla to her.
Troy placed his hand on Skyla’s waist, giving her a strong boost of confidence.
Helena saw the gesture and studied Skyla. When she heard Skyla’s background, she smiled with real approval. “We should have dinner sometime.”
Troy said, “We will wait until Howard gets back.”
Howard Saffron was Helena’s brother. They were close.
Helena replied, “Of course.”
Ayla looked away.
Brooke walked over to her. “Ms. Keaton, did I offend Will somehow? Can you give me a clue?”
Ayla could not say it was about Troy.
“Mr. Storm arrived. We had to move fast for work.”
Brooke accepted that. Then he noticed her glance toward Troy and laughed. “Mr. Winston must really love his wife. He introduced her to someone with Helena’s status. People are already saying that if Mrs. Winston starts a project, investors will come running. A man who loves his wife succeeds. A man who does not suffers forever. Mr. Winston is set,”
Ayla did not respond.
Brooke blinked. “Ms. Keaton?”
Ayla gave him a soft smile. “Brooke, you should take care of your guests.”
Brooke froze.
She was upset again.
Ayla saw Draven still busy and slipped off to grab water.

She spotted the famous artist Henry Lonedrum surrounded by a crowd. He was a giant in the art scene.
Ayla had taken his painting class as a child. She was technically his student. He probably did not remember
her now.
She wondered if she should say hello when a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her toward a resting area.
Ayla turned and saw Bria. She tried to walk off.
“Ayla! Stop right there!”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
