Divorce you and marry him novel Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Nicholas was ushered into the Rodriguez residence.

Rather than being invited, it was more like he was escorted under guard.

Brayden dismissed the servants and unhurriedly poured tea.

“Mr. Padilla has come from afar, I should have shown proper hospitality.” Brayden pushed a cup of tea toward him, his tone flat. “But I do wonder-what is the purpose of your entangling yourself with my wife?”

“She is not your wife!” Nicholas slammed both hands onto the tea table, veins bulging on the backs of his hands, his eyes bloodshot. “What happened between us was just a misunderstanding! I love her. I was foolish-an utter bastard! I will spend the rest of my life making it up to her. Please, give me one more chance…”

“You love her?” Brayden let out a soft laugh, thick with mockery. “Mr. Padilla’s version of love truly opens my eyes. Love, to the point of forcing her to take contraceptives and abort your child? Love, to the point of abandoning her with your own hands at the edge of a cliff? Love, to the point of sending her to prison in place of the woman you held dearest?”

Nicholas shook violently, staring at him in disbelief. “You… how do you know…”

“How do I know?”

He raised his eyes, his gaze as deep and cold as a dark pool, locking onto Nicholas. “Because I knew her earlier than you did, and I loved her earlier than you did. Back then, her entire heart and vision were filled with you. I could see her, but she could not see me.”

“I watched her burn her hands learning to cook local food for you. I watched her leave the lights on late into the night, waiting until dawn for you. I watched her grow desolate and heartbroken every time you chose Samantha. I watched you, bit by bit, exhaust every last ounce of her love and expectations for you.”

Brayden leaned forward slightly, his voice pressed low, yet every word struck straight to the heart. “Nicholas, do you know how I felt when I learned she had fallen off a cliff and gone missing? I wanted nothing more than to flay you alive. Fortunately, heaven had eyes and let me find her. From the day she agreed to come with me, I swore that in this lifetime, I would never let her suffer even the slightest grievance, never let her shed a single tear.”

“And you,” he leaned back into his chair, regaining that air of refined composure, a cold curve lifting at the corner of his lips, “what do you have to compare with me? Your belated, ridiculous awakening? Or the traces on your body that can never be washed away, belonging to another woman, and… the blood of her child?”

Every word was like a poison-soaked whip, lashing fiercely at Nicholas’s heart, shattering his pitiful hope into pieces.

He staggered backward in defeat and collapsed into a chair, his face ashen.

Yes-what did he have to compare with him?

All he had ever brought Katherine was endless harm and pain.

And Brayden had saved her at her most desperate moment, giving her shelter and… a future.

“Let me see her once.” Nicholas lifted his head, his eyes filled with the desperation of someone at the end of the road. He did not hesitate to cast aside all dignity, dropping to his knees with a thud. “I beg you, let me see her once-just once. I’ll say a few words to her, and then I’ll leave… I beg you…

Brayden lowered his gaze to look at him for a long time-so long that Nicholas thought he was about to refuse.

“Fine.” Brayden said suddenly.

A sudden burst of light flared in Nicholas’s eyes.

“Kneel here.” Brayden pointed to the smooth, icy gold-brick floor. “Kneel for twelve hours, and I will let you see her.”

Nicholas did not hesitate. He straightened his back and knelt down.

That very night, Nashville saw the first torrential rain of the winter.

Cold rain mixed with biting chill lashed mercilessly against Nicholas.

He was soaked through, his lips frozen purple, his body trembling uncontrollably, yet he continued to kneel straight and rigid, like a silent statue.

Holding an umbrella, Brayden walked slowly to the corridor and watched coldly through the curtain of rain.

After watching for a moment, he turned and walked back into the house.

Inside the warm bedroom, Katherine was reading. When she saw him come in, she rose and handed him a bath towel. “Why did you get caught in the rain?”

Brayden took the towel but did not use it, casually setting it aside instead. He walked over and naturally wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on the top of her head, his voice gentle. “What are you reading?”.

“Just something light.” Katherine put the book down and tilted her head slightly. “He… is he still kneeling?”

“Mm.” Brayden responded, his arms tightening a little, a barely perceptible tension in his tone. “Katie, will you soften your heart?”

Katherine was silent for a moment, then gently shook her head. “No.”

Brayden let out a breath he did not realize he had been holding. Lowering his head, he kissed her hair. “Go to sleep. I’ll stay with you.”

He turned off the light and lay down with her in his arms.

Cradled in his embrace, Katherine gradually relaxed. Before sinking into sleep, she faintly heard the torrential rain pouring outside the window, and the stubborn, upright figure in the garden that slowly merged into the night.

But she did not open her eyes.
