Frowning, Jonas said, “Our decision has nothing to do with Mr. Gray.”

“Hah! As if anyone would believe that!” Calvin snorted.

Roxy remained silent.

She thought back to when she’d opened her very first club. Back then, it had been incredibly difficult for her. She had no money and no connections. Every local street thug would come knocking, trying to cause trouble for her.

It was Ashton who comforted her and told her everything would be fine. It was also Ashton who stood by her side and helped her tackle each problem one by one.

That led to the Summit Lounge of today.

Once the business had finally gained a foothold, Ashton stepped away without hesitation, choosing instead to stay home and take care of Celia. As a result, Roxy had continued to believe all along that she had single- handedly created the miracle that was Summit Lounge’s success.

But now, the illusion had been ruthlessly shattered.

“Don’t rush into this decision, Mr. Ewing. If you have any terms, you can discuss them with Ms. Sloan-”

“Settle their final paycheck and let them go, Anna,” Roxy interrupted with a sigh.

“Thank you, Ms. Sloan.”

Jonas and the others didn’t feel reluctant about leaving Summit Lounge at all, for they all left in no time. In the blink of an eye, the once–bustling Summit Lounge became completely empty.

There were barely any guests, and the majority of the staff were gone. Those who remained behind felt quite

uneasy.

The place seemed like a sinking ship.

“Ms. Sloan, what do we do…”

Anna was frantic, but when she saw the tears that rolled down Roxy’s cheeks, she swallowed her words back

down.

She knew this was the breaking point for Roxy, who’d kept her emotions all bottled up until now. It was the first time she’d cried in years.

Anna hesitated for some time, but in the end, she said, “Ms. Sloan, the divorce hasn’t been finalized yet, right? As long as you clear up the misunderstandings with Mr. Gray before the final divorce decree, things can still go back to the way they were!

“You’ve seen just how much influence Mr. Gray has…”

“Anna! What the hell are you saying? You shut your mouth!” Calvin cried out agitatedly. “Don’t listen to a word of her nonsense, Roxy! This is all part of Ashton’s devious scheme to make you go back to him!”

After wiping her tears away, Roxy regained her composure. “I admit that I underestimated Ashton. I thought that after all these years, he would’ve lost all of his influence in the criminal underworld.

“Who would’ve thought that he’d still have such means and connections? Nevertheless, he’s still nothing but a thug who can’t make it in the real world. He won’t ever be able to rise up the ranks of society.”

“Exactly! You’re absolutely right, Roxy. People like us belong among the upper echelon of society, and Ashton is nothing more than a lowly thug! Maybe one day, he’ll get stabbed to death on the streets by one of his rivals. We’d better stay as far away from people like him as possible!”

Calvin had a huge fright just now. He was deathly afraid that Roxy would consider getting back together with

Ashton.

“Summit Lounge is only a small part of Summit Group. Does Ashton think that a few petty tricks like these are enough to win against me? What makes him think he can steal Celia’s custody from me?” Roxy declared, finally regaining her confidence.

“I won’t lose! I’ll prove to everyone that none of what I have now has anything to do with Ashton. It’s the work of my own efforts!”

“Well said!” Calvin exclaimed in excitement. “Without Ashton, we’ll join hands to make Summit Group even better than ever!”

After mulling things over, Roxy started making arrangements again.

She was going to duke it out with Ashton properly.

Ashton left Evermore Club with Lawrence and got into a sedan.

The driver, dressed in a suit, carried himself with an air of authority. Even Ashton could sense an intimidating pressure emanating from the middle–aged man, so he couldn’t help but cast a glance at him.

“This is Neil Bloomberg. He’s been with me for several decades now. If you ever encounter a difficult situation, Ashton, feel free to get in touch with him for help,” Lawrence said with a smile as he sat in the back with Ashton.

Both Neil and Kayla, who sat up front, were stunned to hear that.

Wasn’t Lawrence being a bit too nice to Ashton?

“Where are we going, Mr. Clarkson Senior?” Ashton queried.

“You’ll see when we get there,” Lawrence replied pleasantly.

The car sped down the road, soon exiting the main city district of Javonbury.

Ashton couldn’t resist asking again, “What do you know about my father and my background, Mr. Clarkson Senior?”
