Suddenly, Conrad’s loud, panicked voice appeared. He ran into the cell as quickly as his large, burly form would allow, screaming for Kyle to stop.

Ashton was someone who had a very deep connection with the head of the Legion! If anything bad happened to him, or if he was really forced into signing the confession, then Conrad was as good as dead!

The nature of the case had already taken a huge turn. So what if Conrad had Ashton’s signed confession? It didn’t hold any water once the head of the Legion was involved! He couldn’t possibly expect to talk any sense into the ruthless head at all!

“Mr. Nell? We’ve almost gotten Ashton to sign the confession! We’re not afraid of anyone once we have his confession!” Calvin said in a low voice.

Conrad was outraged when he saw Calvin. He punched Calvin in the face as harshly as he could. His eyes were bloodshot, and he wished he could just eat Calvin alive.

“Shut the fuck up!”

“What’s gotten into you, Mr. Nell?” Calvin exclaimed.

He hadn’t expected to get punched in the face out of the blue. His cheek was smarting very painfully.

“Hurry up and release Mr. Gray! It was all a misunderstanding! Just a misunderstanding!”

Conrad didn’t have the time to demand an explanation from Calvin. He quickly plastered a sheepish smile on his face and rushed up to Ashton, personally uncuffing him. Then, he kept apologizing over and over again.

“I’m sorry for putting you through all this, Mr. Gray! It was all my fault. Please have mercy on me and forgive me for this blunder!”

Conrad then gritted his teeth and punched himself in the face a couple of times. Kyle and Calvin were stupefied when they saw him doing that.

What was going on?

They knew that Conrad had always been very conscious of his ego and reputation. Those were the only reasons why he’d refused to release Ashton even after being pressured by everyone else.

Kyle and Calvin then turned to look at Neil at the same time. Neil was slowly approaching them, and they suddenly had a bad feeling about everything.

“But Chief Nell, that wasn’t what you said to me earlier,” Ashton said nonchalantly. “If I remember correctly, you confidently said that I have too many crimes on my head, and I would never be released from my cell for the rest of my life. How could you now say that everything was just a misunderstanding after all?”

Conrad’s face fell. He hadn’t known that Ashton was somehow related to the head of the Legion back when he said

those words to him!

“Mr. Gray, it was a massive blunder on my part. I was blinded by someone else! That was the only reason why I’d made such a huge, unforgivable mistake!”

Conrad thought for a while. Then, he suppressed the humiliation and fell to his knees before Ashton, grovelling at his feet. “Mr. Gray, I’m really sorry! What I did was horribly wrong! You can punish me if you want!”
