“Please get up, Dr. Donahue. I have no intention of taking on a mentee,” Ashton said, shaking his head.

Christian felt his heart sink. Tears streamed down his face as he pleaded, “Those who are more capable should be recognized as mentors! I, Christian Donahue, have dedicated my life to the study of the Ninefold Arcane Technique.

“If I fail to become your mentee, it will be the greatest regret of my life. I cannot die in peace! Please grant me this wish, Dr. Gray!”

His words were earnest as he added humbly, “If you accept me as your mentee, Dr. Gray, I will serve you faithfully for the rest of my life. I will give all my wealth to you, obey all your commands, and never question your orders. Please allow me this honor!”

Christian kept his head bowed low, having made up his mind that he was going to do whatever it took to beg for Ashton to become his mentor. His only goal in life was to master the Ninefold Arcane Technique.

Ashton frowned, surprised that Christian, despite being well into his 70s, could be so stubborn. At the same time, he felt a trace of respect for Christian. Regardless of everything else, Christian truly had a heart for medicine.

Christian’s eyes gleamed brightly. Nodding eagerly, he said “Please accept me as your mentee, Dr. Gray! I’m willing to serve you for life!”

“As they say, secrets of the trade cannot be shared lightly. I’ll accept you as a nominal mentee for now. In a year, if you prove yourself worthy of the Arcane Medicine Association, I’ll formally take you as my official mentee. How does that sound?” Ashton proposed.

“Thank you, Mr. Gray! Thank you!” Christian exclaimed in xuberance.

“Hurry up and get up.”

Never would he have thought that he’d have a mentee who was well into his 70s. His own mentor once said that if he met the right person, he was free to pass down the art of the Ninefold Arcane Technique and secure the legacy of Casoria’s medical expertise.

“You’re too kind, Felix,” Lawrence replied curtly.

“Mr. Clarkson Senior, Clay and I came today to discuss something with you, and we hope you’ll grant us this wish! “Felix said.

At his words, Clay’s face brightened, and he straightened up

Kayla felt her heart sink, and a hint of displeasure crossed her face.

“Go on,” Lawrence said calmly.

Felix said, “Long ago, the Legion and the Dominion Vanguard made a pact to strengthen our ties with a marriage alliance. Your granddaughter has grown to become a fine young woman, and Clay here is a rising star of his generation.

“He will one day take charge of the Dominion Vanguard as well, making him the perfect match for Ms. Clarkson. Why don’t we formalize the marriage alliance today, Mr. Clarkson Senior? What do you say?”

Apart from coming over to check on Lawrence’s health, the two had another major reason for being here, and that was to propose a marriage alliance.

As long as Clay married Kayla, once Lawrence passed away it would make perfect sense for Clay to take over the Legion, which meant that the Dominion Vanguard could absorb the Legion without any resistance!
