Chapter 158
“My feelings for you are true, Kayla!” Clay swore. “I promise I will ensure a life of glory for you. You’ll be honored and respected wherever you go!”
He had absolute confidence in himself. His status, looks, charisma, and strength all made him irresistibly attractive to women. There was no reason for Kayla to refuse him.
To him, he and Kayla were a match made in heaven–a union destined to happen.
“Was there ever such an agreement? Why can’t I seem to remember that?” Lawrence remarked slowly as he sat up
a little.
Felix’s expression flickered. “Mr. Clarkson Senior, this is an agreement between Legion and the Dominion Vanguard.”
“Please approve of my union with Kayla, Mr. Clarkson Senior! I’ll take good care of her. I promise I will make her the happiest woman in the world!” Clay declared.
However, Kayla found Clay’s display utterly fake. She hurriedly shook her head at Lawrence. She was not at all interested in marrying Clay!
If she married someone, he’d have to be the strongest expert in the world! Although Clay did have some talent, he was far from meeting her standards.
As for Ashton, he simply looked on in amusement.
All of a sudden, Ashton noticed that Lawrence’s deep, penetrating gaze had shot his way. It shot a chill down his spine and gave him a bad feeling.
True enough, Lawrence abruptly said, “I apologize, but you two were a step too late. I’ve already agreed to give Ashton Kayla’s hand in marriage. They’ll soon be proceeding with the wedding ceremony.
“I’m afraid you and Kayla are not meant to be, Clay.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in absolute shock. Even Neil gulped, wondering to himself when Lawrence arranged for Kayla and Ashton to get married. Was it just a moment ago?
He couldn’t help but glance at Ashton with a slight smile on his face.
Kayla was completely stunned, too. What did Lawrence just say? While he did mention wanting to set her up Ashton, she never agreed to it!
In the past, she would’ve immediately made her protest known, but now…

Kayla glanced at Ashton. Compared to the repulsive Clay, Ashton seemed a lot more appealing. It felt like a good idea to use him as a cover. In any case, she’d already promised to spend a night with him.
“Surely you’re joking, Mr. Clarkson Senior,” Felix said, his voice sharp.
As for Clay, he was on the brink of losing his composure entirely. “It has always been a tacit agreement that Kayla and I will get married, Mr. Clarkson Senior! How could you give her hand in marriage to a guy like him!”
“What is this tacit agreement you speak of?” Lawrence questioned coldly. “Are you trying to imply that I don’t even have the right to have a say in who my granddaughter marries? If you don’t believe me, ask Kayla herself and see if she’s already agreed to this marriage!
“Kayla and Ashton share mutual feelings for each other!”
“Tell Mr. Clarkson it’s not true, Kayla! There’s no way you‘ marry a nobody like him!” Clay urged.

He’d sworn to get his hands on Kayla. How could she marry another man?
“It’s true!” Kayla declared.

Smiling faintly, she walked over to Ashton and looped her arm around his before continuing with a bashful expression, “Ashton and I have been engaged for some time. You can go now. I won’t be marrying you.”
“That’s impossible!” Clay screamed before wagging his finger at Ashton. “Let go of Kayla! Get your filthy hand off her!”
Raising a brow, Ashton scoffed and wrapped his arm around Kayla’s slender waist.
“I won’t,” he said with a snicker. “What are you going to do about it?”
