“Melody! Apologize at once!” Sylvia demanded, her expression icy.
It was the first time she’d gotten truly angry with Melody. All along, she doted on her younger sister, who was the only family she had left. She tried her best to give Melody everything she herself missed out on growing up. Even as Melody grew more rebellious, Sylvia never wanted to be too harsh on her.
But things were different this time.
Sylvia had waited for so many years before finally being able to openly try to get close to Ashton. She wasn’t going to let anyone ruin her chances!
“Why should I apologize? I refuse!” Melody retorted disdainfully. “You’ve got tons of suitors, Sylvia, and they’re all better than a divorcee like him! I really don’t know what you see in him.”
Turning to Ashton, she snapped, “Ashton! You must’ve used some kind of devious trick to bewitch Sylvia, didn’t you? Now that Roxy kicked you out, you come clinging to Sylvia. What are you after, huh?
“Do you really think you can get together with Sylvia? Don’t be delusional! Why don’t you take a good look at yourself first and see if you’re even worthy of her? You’re just a loser who thinks he can get with someone who’s way out of his league!”
Before Ashton could even say anything, Sylvia slapped Melody across the face.
“Sylvia? Did you just hit me?”
Melody’s eyes instantly turned red and pooled with tears. She looked utterly incredulous as she cried out, “You’ve never hit me before, Sylvia! Are you seriously hitting me now over some random man like him who came out of nowhere?”
“Apologize to him!” Sylvia commanded without explaining anything to Melody.
“Never!” Melody shrieked back with a sob. She glared balefully at Ashton before running back to her room on the third floor in tears.
“I’ll stay somewhere else,” Ashton said curtly.
“Don’t go, Ashton!” Sylvia quickly grabbed Ashton, who had turned to leave, and begged, “Melody just has the wrong idea about you. I’ll give her a good talking–to later.”
Ashton shook his head. “Let’s just forget about it.”
He didn’t want to drive a wedge into their sisterly bond.
“Please, Ashton, I’m begging you.” Sylvia stood in front of Ashton to block his path.
She knew that if he walked out of this house tonight, the distance between them would only widen again. That was something she absolutely couldn’t allow to happen. She had waited ten years for this chance. There was no way she was letting it slip through her fingers.
Ashton remained hesitant.
“Ashton, I know you’re doing this for my sake, but… give me a chance, please?” Her voice trembled with meekness. “Besides, if you live here, you’ll be able to look after Celia more easily.
“If anyone hurts Celia, all she has to do is cry, and you’ll immediately know about it. Plus, regardless of what you decide to do in the future, it’ll be easier for you if you have me with you. At least give me the chance to repay you.”

Sylvia was terrified that Ashton would walk away from her just like that.
After looking into her earnest, moving eyes, he eventually nodded in agreement.
“I’m so glad!”
Sylvia threw herself at Ashton and hugged him tightly. Once again, a suggestive tension hung in the air between them. Alas, as a result of Melody’s interruptions, the perfect timing had slipped away.
After a while, Sylvia reluctantly released him with a pout. Smiling, she said, “Get some rest, Ashton. And remember. My room is on the third floor–the first one on the left. My door is always open for you.”
She was always going to be blunt about her fierce devotion to him.
Sylvia had a radiant smile of confidence. For years now, she’d put a lot of effort into refining her looks and bearing. She’d even mimicked some of Roxy’s attributes, all in preparation for this very opportunity.
She had full faith in her charms. Sooner or later, she’d win Ashton over.
That night, her heart was filled with hope and eager anticipation for the future.
After Sylvia left, Ashton controlled his emotions and sat cross–legged again, resuming his cultivation.
Ten years ago, when he withdrew from the martial arts world, he’d already been an S–ranked expert. Now, after ten years, he’d attained the legendary transcendent realm. However, he’d been stuck in that realm for the past six
years.
He had begun to believe that the transcendent realm was the absolute peak of the martial path–until now.
Dark flames flickered in the depths of Ashton’s eyes. Inner energy was surging within his body, and another mysterious energy was flowing among his organs.
“I’d finally passed the last stage of enlightenment…”
Ashton chuckled. Who would’ve thought that divorcing Roxy would enable him to achieve a state of inner fulfillment?
“From the vast martial arts world to the towering offices of power…” he mumbled under his breath as he contemplated the path before him.
