Chapter 179
“Roxy, marry me!” Calvin’s eyes brimmed with tears as he shouted himself hoarse, waiting for Roxy to accept his proposal.
The moment she did, he would slip the diamond ring he’d painstakingly prepared onto her finger and kiss her passionately. Then, he would lead her by the hand to Ashton. Finally, he could show off in front of Ashton!
And from then on, Roxy would be his and his alone. He would have everything she had!
Just thinking about it made Calvin grin even wider. His blissful life was about to begin. The humiliation he’d suffered from Ashton before would be no more than just a few simple obstacles.
“Marry him!”
“Marry him!”
The friends and family Calvin had invited shouted at the top of their lungs and applauded loudly, pushing the atmosphere to a fever pitch. They cheered Calvin on and piled pressure onto Roxy.
“This is so touching! Roxy’s such a lucky woman. I wish I were the one Calvin was proposing to!”
“I don’t think anyone would turn down Mr. Emerson–he’s so rich and handsome!”
“They’re perfect together!”
“You two have to be happy!”
“Say yes to Mr. Emerson! He’ll make you the happiest woman in the world!”
Voices kept chiming in, urging Roxy in every way they could.
Meanwhile, Celia, who was in Ashton’s arms, grew anxious and shouted, “Mommy-”
Ashton covered her mouth. She whimpered and looked up at him pitifully.
He merely shook his head. How Roxy chose was her own business, and he didn’t want Celia interfering. Besides, he had his own selfish motive.
As long as Roxy accepted Calvin’s proposal, he’d have a reason to take Celia away at any cost. He absolutely couldn’t accept Celia having a stepfather.
“Ashton, hurry up and stop Roxy!” Renee said anxiously, feeling her heart leap to her throat.
She was terrified Roxy would be swept up by the moment and say yes.
Ashton shook his head, looking calm,
Renee’s face fell. “Is there really no chance of anything else between you and Roxy anymore? You two were once so in love.”
“That was in the past. It’s over now.”
Ashton didn’t waver in the slightest. He didn’t love Roxy anymore, and that was that. Their marriage had meant

a lot to him, but he could also now let it go.
Besides, since he began cultivating the Drakell technique, his Drakeborne lineage had awakened further. He had a bright future ahead. Countless women who were more alluring and irresistible than Roxy waited for him out there. There were plenty of fish in the sea, so why would he be hung up on her?
“Marry him! Marry him!”
The chanting swelled.
At its peak, Calvin gazed at Roxy with deep affection and reached for her ring finger, eager to slide the diamond ring on. “Roxy, I’ll be your guardian for the rest of my life. Become my wife–marry me!”
But just as his hand was about to touch hers, she stepped back.
In an instant, the room fell silent.
Roxy’s step back doused the crowd’s fervor like a bucket of ice water, and it also felt like a loud, ringing slap across Calvin’s face.
Calvin blanched. His confident smile froze in place, and his hands trembled ever so slightly. Soon, however, he composed himself and forced out another smile. He stepped forward again, lifting the ring high and pleading, Roxy, marry me!”
She must not have processed it earlier. Once it hit her that he–the one she’d always wanted–was the one proposing, she would definitely say yes!
