Roxy felt a wave of nausea as she looked at Calvin’s face. In that instant, scenes of her life with Ashton flashed through her mind.

Calvin looked crushed. “Roxy, you can’t do this to me. I’m sincere about you, and I-”

“Calvin! You should go.” Roxy cut him off.

Calvin’s expression darkened. He felt like everyone was laughing at him, and Roxy had delivered the most cruel

blow.

“Fine, I’ll go! One day, I’ll make every last one of you regret this!”

He slunk out of Summit Lounge in disgrace. Outside the club, his face contorted in rage. “Ashton Gray and Roxy Sloan–I’ll make both of you pay dearly! Ashton, I’ll make you watch as I defile Roxy. Roxy, just wait! Sooner or later, you’ll be mine! I’ll conquer you!”

Inside Summit Lounge, the noise swelled.

After Calvin’s departure, the people he’d hired drifted out in ones and twos. The previously packed, lively club fell quiet and empty,
