Chapter 20
Just one look from Sylvia made Calvin weak in the knees.
“Of course!” he said proudly.
“Does that mean you’ll go out with me, Mr. Emerson?”
“Well, about that…”
Feigning a sigh, he replied, “You’re putting me on the spot here, Ms. Langley.”
“If it’s so difficult for you, then we can forget about it.”
“Let’s just exchange contact information first, Ms. Langley, but you can’t let Roxy find out about this. When the time comes, I’ll find a way to resolve the grudge between you and her,” Calvin hurriedly said in panic, afraid of letting Sylvia–his prey–slip away from him.
“Sure.”
Sylvia saved Calvin’s number, figuring that she could keep tabs on Roxy’s actions through him. She absolutely could not allow Roxy and Ashton to even have a shot at getting back together.
Meanwhile, Calvin was overjoyed. Once again, he fantasized about having two gorgeous women hanging all over him in the distant future.
“Ms. Langley, you’d better keep your distance from Ashton. In fact, it’d be best to kick him out of your house right now! That guy’s nothing but trouble. Otherwise, why would Roxy be so dead set on divorcing him?” Calvin said.
The thought of Ashton living in Sylvia’s villa filled Calvin with anger. He was the one who should be receiving such treatment!
“I’ll think about it,” Sylvia said before changing the subject. “How far have you gotten in your relationship with Roxy, Mr. Emerson?”
At the mention of that, Calvin clenched his fists as fury colored his features. Even to this day, he hadn’t even managed to hold Roxy’s hand. She kept giving him mixed signals, keeping him at a distance. He had no way of taking their relationship to the next level.
Well, if he couldn’t get Roxy in bed with him, he figured he could make a move on Sylvia first. She seemed a lot more open–minded about such things.
With that thought in mind, Calvin pretended to be the perfect gentleman by saying, “We’re still taking things slow. But I’m guessing that once Roxy and Ashton have completely cut off all ties for good, Roxy and I can make our relationship official, too.”
“I see. Good luck with that, Mr. Emerson. I hope wistfulness.

Calvin was still keen to try and establish a closer connection with Sylvia. But out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Ashton and Roxy were back. He immediately kept his distance from Sylvia and scurried over to Roxy, asking nervously, “Did you manage to file the divorce paperwork without any issues?”
Roxy nodded. “Once the procedures are completed, we can come and collect a copy of the divorce decree.”
Exhaling in relief, Calvin exclaimed, “That’s good. It’s such a shame that the procedures take a long time.”
“It’s just a month.”
Chapter 20
“That’s true, but you still have to keep your guard up against certain devious people.”
Casting a warning look at Ashton, Calvin snapped, “You’d better not run off any time in the coming month, Ashton. I’ll be keeping my eye on you!”
Ashton couldn’t be bothered to pay any attention to Calvin. As he stared at the horizon, the memories he shared with Roxy flashed across his mind. But soon, these scenes shattered into pieces. All of his feelings for her had turned into dust. He no longer felt even the slightest flicker of affection for her.
“Wait a minute, Ashton!” Roxy called out to stop him from leaving.
She’d been caught off guard by Ashton’s attitude. Right from this morning and until they’d completed the divorce filing, he truly hadn’t spoken a single word to her, unless he was required to, or even looked her in the eye. It was as though she were invisible to him.
“Do you need something?”
Roxy took a deep breath to keep her displeasure in check. Then, she retrieved a check for ten million dollars from her handbag and held it out to him. “Since you don’t want the five million dollars I offered, what about ten million dollars? That should be enough to satisfy your greed, right?
“I’m only offering this to you out of consideration for the fact that you’re Celia’s father. Take it and leave Javonbury. This should be enough for you to find someone new to spend the rest of your life with.”
Ashton turned around and looked Roxy squarely in the eyes.
His stare made her uncomfortable, so she looked away before saying, “Stop being stubborn, Ashton! What’s the point of trying to maintain your pride and dignity when you’re being offered ten million dollars?
“Just face reality. I’m not trying to humiliate you either. Even though we’ll officially be divorced soon, I still hope you’ll have a decent life. I don’t want to see you returning to a life of violence.”
