Isaac’s declaration was simple and to the point.

When Ashton withdrew from the criminal underworld, he gave his subordinates a generous sum of money and provided them with the means to make an honest living. But some men–like Isaac, who felt greatly indebted to Ashton–refused to leave his side no matter what.

Because of that, Ashton had Isaac join Summit Group. He instructed him and his men to oversee the safety of Summit Group’s businesses as well as aid in the company’s growth.

But now, the news of Ashton and Roxy’s divorce had spread like wildfire. Everyone in the company had caught wind of it, and they even knew that the two would be filing their divorce paperwork at the courthouse that day.

Thus, once Isaac confirmed that Ashton and Roxy were ending their relationship, he submitted his resignation without any hesitation that very day. No matter how good the benefits were at Summit Group, he and his men had no intention of staying.

“Don’t be reckless, Mr. Carter. Whatever the issue, let’s just sit down and have a proper discussion. How’s this? I’ll double all your salaries, and I’ll even give you a Summit Group stock option, Mr. Carter. What do you say?” Roxy tried to convince Isaac.

One way or another, she had to keep him. Otherwise, she’d be losing a core piece in the very foundation of Summit Group.

Roxy was deeply frustrated as well. While she was aware that Isaac and his men once worked with Ashton, she’d assumed that her treatment of them all these years had been enough to earn their loyalty and have them continue to stick by her.

But instead, they were doing this to her the moment she filed for a divorce. Was it possible that Ashton was using Isaac and the others to put pressure on her so that she’d regret the divorce?

What a joke that was!

Roxy believed that everyone could be bought with money. Everyone had a price.

“They don’t deserve that much!” Calvin grumbled. He was extremely displeased once he found out that Isaac and the other men had once worked with Ashton.

“There’s nothing left to discuss, Ms. Sloan. My men and I are leaving Summit Group today,” Isaac resolutely declared.

Roxy’s expression became a little unpleasant. “I’ve treated you well all these years, Mr. Carter, but you’re going to leave me in a lurch just like that? Aren’t you being a bit too heartless?

“If you have any conditions, go ahead and name them. As long as I can meet them, I’ll do my best to satisfy your demands.”

“Ms. Sloan, my men and I only joined Summit Group because of Mr. Gray. Now that you two are going your separate ways, it’s only natural that we’re leaving, too.”

“Is there no room for any discussion at all?” Roxy asked.

Isaac nodded.

Roxy had to take a deep breath, but her chest continued to heave. “According to your employment contract, Mr. Carter, you need to give at least a month’s notice before you resign. It’ll be a breach of contract if you insist on

“Of course we’re aware of that, Ms. Sloan. But since Mr. Gray no longer has any ties with Summit Group, my men and I won’t be sticking around either,” Isaac declared. “We’ve left clear records of our duties so that they can be handed over.

“Apart from that, we will also be paying the penalty for breaching our contract. You don’t need to worry about that, Ms. Sloan.”

Roxy’s heart sank. She knew she’d failed to keep Isaac and his men around, but she couldn’t understand why they were still so loyal to Ashton even though ten years had passed. Wasn’t she worth such loyalty, too? What was so good about Ashton?

For some reason, Roxy became livid. She screamed at Ashton, “Is this your way of getting back at me, Ashton?”
