At first, Roxy still felt a trace of guilt toward Ashton. But now that Isaac and the others made it clear they were determined to resign, what she felt toward him now was mostly contempt and disgust.

Did he really think that by doing so, he could play her like a puppet?

It was so despicable of him!

“Roxy, you can finally see Ashton’s true colors, right? I bet he had it all planned out with these people from the start. What a shameless and underhanded trick! You two were husband and wife, and he still stabbed you in the back like this!” Calvin fumed indignantly.

“It’s a good thing you’ve already filed for divorce, or else he would’ve stolen your family’s business right from under your nose by now. Who knows what other nefarious schemes he’s been pulling?”

“Mr. Gray has nothing to do with our resignation, Ms. Sloan. None of us ever had any contact with him before this. You’ve jumped to the wrong conclusions about him,” Isaac corrected.

“Do you expect us to believe that? People like you who are involved in the criminal underworld never tell the truth!” Calvin scoffed condescendingly.

Isaac shot an icy look at Calvin, who immediately cowered when he met Isaac’s steely gaze. Calvin ducked behind Roxy and muttered, “Roxy, these men are in cahoots with Ashton. You can’t keep them in your company.

“Don’t worry. I know a few people from the streets like them. I’ll find you a group of men who can fight. I promise Summit Group’s businesses won’t be affected.”

Roxy continued to stare at Ashton. At his silence, she snapped, “I demand an explanation from you, Ashton!”

“I didn’t ask them to resign. I’m not using this to get back at you,” Ashton calmly replied.

“Hah! Do you think you can still weasel your way out of this now? When did you become such a liar, Ashton? It’s only now that I finally realized I don’t know you at all!” Roxy screeched angrily.

Ashton snorted. “It’s beneath me to lie. In any case, even if I’d arranged this, so what?”

He took a step forward and fixed an imposing glare on her. “Roxy, do you still remember what happened when you opened your first establishment? To help you build up a firm footing in the business, it was I who led Isaac and the others to establish rapport with the local bosses.

“We fought our way through all the challenges and risked our lives doing so. That’s the only reason why you managed to win a foothold in Javonbury!

“I fought alongside Isaac and his men. Our bond is one forged through shared near–death experiences. Now that you and I are through, what’s wrong with them leaving Summit Group as well? Do you seriously think they get your permission first?

“What makes you think you’re worthy of keeping them around? What makes you deserve having brave and honorable men like them risk their lives for you? Just because you offer them a paycheck? You know nothing, Roxy!”

In that instant, Ashton gave off such a commanding air, immediately making Roxy’s conviction crumble. She instinctively took a step back, her face paling.

Her fists clenched tight as the memories came back to her. She recalled how impossible things had seemed when she first started her company. It was Ashton who supported her from behind and opened doors for her.

But so what?

Even if she didn’t have Ashton back then, she would’ve succeeded anyway–she probably would’ve been even more successful!

Roxy took a deep breath before saying, “Anna, approve their resignation! Let Mr. Carter and his men leave. Even without them, Summit Group will carry on just fine!”

Then, she spat at Ashton, “I’m telling you right now, Ashton. You’re just dragging Isaac and his men down with you. With the money and resources at Summit Group’s disposal, we can easily find a group of expert fighters! “Do you think you can crush the company just by luring them away? Don’t make me laugh!

“On the contrary, it’s Isaac and his men who’ll suffer! They no longer have the honest living they got from Summit Group. If they join you in a life of violence once again, sooner or later, they’ll end up in an abyss of no salvation!”
