As the Sage’s youngest son, Edmund had always been arrogant and overbearing. Yet Ashton had humiliated him so thoroughly and even stolen his woman. That was a bitter pill he refused to swallow!
While digging into Ashton, Edmund happened to cross paths with Calvin. The enemy of one’s enemy was one’s friend, so the two hit it off instantly and agreed to take revenge on Ashton.
“Mr. Vance, Ashton isn’t that easy to deal with. You have to make sure nothing goes wrong, or we’re the ones who’ll pay for it,” Calvin said, shuddering as he remembered the fierce, predatory look in Ashton’s eyes.
Edmund thumped his chest. “Relax. Just lure him to Orchid Pavilion Manor–all the men there are mine. I paid top dollar for assassins from the Shadowed Nocturnals. They’ve taken down experts in the semi–transcendent realm before! On top of that, I’ve set up a gas chamber. The moment Ashton sets foot in the manor, he’s as good as
dead.”
“Good!” Calvin exhaled in relief.
Then, he asked, “What will we do to the Sloan sisters?”
Edmund licked his dry lips. “Just like we planned–we’ll each have our fun with them until they’re completely broken in. It’s best if Ashton watches the whole thing. Just thinking about it gets me excited!”
He laughed, and Calvin joined him. The latter growled, “Rory Sloan and Ashton Gray–you forced me into this!”
The rest of the night passed without incident.
The next morning, Roxy said to Renee, “Come with me to Orchid Pavilion Manor tonight to see Calvin off. He’s leaving the country.”
“He’s going away?” Renee’s eyes lit up.
With Calvin gone, didn’t that mean Roxy and Ashton might have a chance of getting back together?
“Yeah. This time, he probably won’t be coming back. Honestly, I owe him an apology,” Roxy said.
Renee curled her lip. “He should’ve left ages ago–he’s just a third wheel! You were out of your mind, Roxy. There’s no way Calvin compares to Ashton. After everything that’s happened lately, you must’ve seen how good Ashton is, right?”
A chill settled over Roxy’s face. “Even without Calvin, I would’ve divorced Ashton. I don’t regret it at all.”
“You and Ashton must have a misunderstanding. You still have a chance to win him back right now. He’s so charming-”
“Renee!” Roxy cut her off. “Don’t bring up Ashton in front of me again. Aside from being Celia’s father, he has nothing to do with me!”
Renee sighed, but her mind flashed to the day she’d clung to Ashton after being drugged with an aphrodisiac. Her cheeks burned, and she could hardly meet Roxy’s eyes.
She forced herself to stay calm as she asked, “Still, why should I go see Calvin off? I’ve never treated him nicely. He probably hates me.‘
“Just come for me,” Roxy said.
“Fine…”

By evening, the sky was awash with sunset, and a soft breeze stirred.
Roxy left the house with Renee. They headed to Orchid Pavilion Manor, where they’d agreed to meet Calvin.
“Roxy, why would Calvin pick such a remote place for a farewell dinner? He isn’t planning anything shady, is he?” Renee mumbled.
Roxy arched a brow, recalling Ashton’s warning. A prickle of unease ran through her, but she quickly shook it off.” Don’t worry. I know Calvin. He’s impulsive, sure, but he’s not the bad sort. Anyway, this place is beautiful. It’s perfect for a meal. Let’s go. After tonight, things between Calvin and me will truly be over.”
