Chapter 26
Robert was used to barking orders at Ashton.
Thanks to Roxy, he’d started his own company. Therefore, he looked down on Ashton, a stay–at–home husband who spent all his time doing housework and taking care of Celia.
In his eyes, Roxy had what it took to marry one of the most eligible bachelors in Javonbury and form a marriage alliance with a wealthy family.
Ashton was far too beneath her!
Thus, despite knowing that it had been Ashton who helped Roxy in the past, he dismissed it as Ashton holding that over her head as leverage.
Isaac had been standing beside Ashton all along, and when he saw Robert’s attitude toward Ashton, his gaze turned cold. He clenched his fists, making the veins near his knuckles pop. Back in the day, anyone who disrespected Ashton paid for it in blood.
However, Ashton raised a hand to stop Isaac.
Roxy had been right about one thing–times had changed. If a brawl broke out and things got out of hand, special units from the local authorities might intervene, and that would cause a lot of unnecessary trouble.
Besides, it was beneath someone like Isaac to deal with trash like Robert.
“Medication? What medication?” Ashton asked with a sneer as he feigned ignorance.
Robert snapped, “Don’t play dumb with me, Ashton! What else could I be talking about? The medication for Mom’s stomach condition, of course! She’s in a great deal of pain right now. I don’t have time to waste my breath on you. Hand over the medication!”
“If you’re talking about that medication, I do have some…”
“Hurry up and give it to me, then! Do you think you can handle the consequences if something happens to Mom?”
Ashton chuckled as he took in Robert’s fierce expression, knowing that he was all bark and no bite. “Even if something happens to your mother, what does it have to do with you? I do have the medication, but why should I give it to you? On what grounds? Do we know each other that well?”
“H–How dare you talk to me like that!” Robert bellowed, his eyes wide with disbelief.
All along, Ashton had always been patient with Robert and even cleaned up quite a number of his messes because he was Roxy’s beloved younger brother.
However, Robert never showed Ashton any form of gratitude for that. On the contrary, he thought it was what Ashton should have been doing in the first place.
“Step aside. I’ve got things to do,” Ashton said curtly.
Apart from Renee, he couldn’t care less about every single person in the Sloan family. Even if they dropped dead in front of him, he wouldn’t even bother taking a second glance.
The past him had been such a fool to extend his affection for Roxy to the rest of her family as well.
Nevertheless, considering what Robert was like, Ashton knew that without him to cover Robert’s ass, sooner or later, Robert would bring disaster upon himself.

Perhaps he could even give things a little shove to get the ball rolling.
“You stop right there, Ashton!” Robert screamed, his expression contorted in fury. “I don’t care. You’re giving me that medication today! If you don’t, I’ll…”
“You’ll what?” Ashton asked, smirking at Robert.
“I’ll…”
Robert couldn’t finish his sentence. Only then did it occur to him that Ashton and Roxy had already filed for divorce. On paper, Ashton was no longer his brother–in–law. He no longer had any relationship with the Sloans either.
“You’ve always been the one handling Mom’s illness, so you need to continue taking responsibility for it! If you don’t, that means you have no regard for human life at all!” Robert snapped through gritted teeth.
“Sure. Let’s just say I have no regard for human life. If Tanya dies, let me know. I’ll send a wreath to her funeral,” Ashton calmly replied.
“How dare you jinx my mom like that!” Robert howled.
His eyes turned bloodshot. Swinging his fist, he lunged at Ashton. He was going to teach that ungrateful bastard a lesson! Once he had given Ashton a good thrashing, he could easily force him to hand over the medication.
Alas, before his fist could even get within inches of Ashton, Ashton slapped him across the face. His face twisted in pain as he lost his balance and stumbled onto the ground. The handprint on his face was burning red and impossible to miss.
Robert was hit with both agony and sheer humiliation.
He couldn’t believe that the powerless Ashton, who had no standing among the Sloan family, had the audacity to hit him!
