She felt compelled to avenge Roxy’s dignity, though she understood that Ashton was probably in the right today. Perhaps, he had even become their savior, rescuing them all from an unthinkable fate by rushing to the scene.

Ashton regarded Eunice with disdain, then asked flatly, “You want to arrest me, huh?”

Eunice felt uncomfortable under Ashton’s scrutinizing gaze. She still lifted her chin, though, and retorted sharply, “Is there any issue with that? I’m part of the Legion, so you’re required to cooperate with my investigation! I hereby place you under suspicion of premeditated murder!”

“You are in no position to arrest me!” Ashton snapped.

He had no time to waste on Eunice. Renee was safe, and he had a vital appointment to perform acupuncture on

Lawrence.

“How conceited of you! Who the hell do you think you are? You’re merely a petty thug! How dare you question my authority to arrest you!” Eunice lunged at Ashton to restrain him, only for the latter to take a step back and effortlessly avoid her grasp.

Eunice was stunned, thinking that no ordinary person could have avoided that move. She then bellowed, “Do you comprehend the gravity of resisting arrest, Ashton?”

“Get out of my way, otherwise I’ll take you down as well!” Ashton bellowed; shooting Eunice a look of utter

annoyance.

He had run out of patience for dealing with Eunice’s persistent interference.

Hearing that, Eunice, proud and haughty as ever, couldn’t stand it anymore. Her eyes flashed with deadly intent while ordering, “Get him!”

Eunice was set on making Ashton regret his insolence, as she had zero tolerance for such blatant, conceited

arrogance.

Ashton’s eyes instantly hardened.

“Hold on!” Ashton was just about to act when a crisp, feminine voice cut through the air.

Kayla arrived in a rush, sharp and poised, placing herself in front of Ashton to stop the conflict. She had gone to pick him up for Lawrence’s acupuncture treatment and, upon learning he was at Orchid Pavilion Resort, immediately made her way there.

“Ms. Clarkson!”

Eunice’s eyes widened in surprise upon seeing Kayla, Lawrence’s beloved granddaughter. She was baffled as to why Kayla would suddenly show up here.

“What in the world are you doing? How dare you attempt to lay a hand on Mr. Gray!” Kayla snapped, showing Eunice no respect whatsoever.

“I…” Eunice trailed off, her expression stiffening.

She couldn’t fathom why Kayla was defending Ashton. She wondered whether an undisclosed relationship existed between Ashton and Kayla. She eyed the two of them and was struck by the ridiculous notion that Ashton and Kayla might be involved with one another.

She then thought to herself, “That’s impossible! Kayla is Mr. Clarkson Senior’s granddaughter! How could she possibly be interested in a disreputable, small–time thug like Ashton?”

She shook off the absurd notion and stated, “Ashton is under suspicion of intentional homicide, Ms. Clarkson. He is actively resisting arrest and resorting to violence. He is a volatile offender who exhibits extreme arrogance.”

“That’s not true! Ashton saved our lives! He took down the bad guys!” Renee declared proudly.

Kayla nodded decisively, saying, “It’s such a straightforward case. Mr. Gray committed no crime. Instead, he should be receiving a commendation!”

Eunice said, “But—”

“That’s the end of it!” Kayla declared.

She then turned to Ashton and stated simply, “Let’s go, Mr. Gray.”

Ashton nodded in assent.

Upon seeing Ashton leave with Kayla, Eunice clenched her fists, feeling both resentful and powerless.

“Hold it!” Roxy suddenly called out.

She then approached Ashton with a frigid gaze and declared, “I have only truly seen your true nature today, and I am grateful beyond measure that I ended our marriage! I will never allow Celia near you, as you are a danger to her well–being! I will use every means available to block your claim to her custody!”
