Chapter 276
Yvonne, red–eyed, trembled with a deep sense of helplessness.
Without warning, Natalie stepped forward and slapped Yvonne hard across the face.
“Who are you calling a murderer? Your son deserved what he got! And if you dare show Mr. Gray any more disrespect, you’ll be getting a lot more than just one slap!”
Yvonne was outraged, but when she looked at Natalie and saw the intimidating experts standing behind Ashton as well, all she could do was clutch her face and shrink backward.
Cadence piped up, “Mr. Gray didn’t bribe us, Mr. Emerson. We simply respect him as our leader and have chosen to follow his command.”
Frank’s eyes widened as a wave of terror coursed through him.
These people, who represented six of the city’s major factions, considered Ashton their leader and took orders from him?
If that was true, then seeking revenge against Ashton now was no different from walking to their doom, and the revelation made him feel that Ashton was truly terrifying.
“Hurry up and get on your knees to beg Mr. Gray for forgiveness!”
“If you want my advice, Mr. Emerson, it’s not a big deal to lose a son. In your condition, you can easily have another one. But if you die, you’d be losing everything.”
“Kneel!”
“Get on your knees!”
The air was charged with murderous hostility.
Refusing to accept this outcome, Yvonne muttered, “Frank, we can’t let Calvin die for nothing—”
Her words were met with a slap to the face.
“You short–sighted woman!” Frank fumed. “Calvin was a useless brat who got what he deserved! It’s an honor for him that he died by Mr. Gray’s hand!”
“What did you say?” Yvonne gasped, her face going pale.
Frank forced Yvonne’s trembling body down and dropped to his own knees before Ashton. Swallowing his pride, he lowered his head and said, “We have foolishly offended you, Mr. Gray. Please forgive us!”
A gust of wind swept through, chilling everyone present.
“How could this be…”
Tanya was gaping, her expression pained.
“Mom, Ashton has truly become a lot more powerful. Even the Emersons dare not touch him now,” Robert exclaimed in horror before gulping.
He was holding onto Tanya, who could barely stay on her feet.
Renee lifted her chin and proudly declared, “Ashton has always been this powerful!”

Roxy let out a quiet sigh.
After everything that happened tonight, she had to admit one thing–she’d been wrong about Ashton. He wasn’t as useless as she’d thought he was.
Even if he was still just a thug in the criminal underworld, just the fact that he’d become this powerful was enough for her to change her impression of him.
And for the first time, she felt a genuine sense of danger. Ashton could actually take custody of Celia away from her in a year’s time. She couldn’t let that happen!
“You’re not going to avenge your son’s death anymore? Are you sure you can live with that?” Ashton asked coldly as he looked down at Frank.
Frank nodded at once. “I will swear on it, Mr. Gray. Calvin’s death was entirely his own doing. I harbor no resentment whatsoever!”
Gritting his teeth, he added, “After tonight, I’ll take my people and leave Javonbury forever. I’ll never step foot here again. Please forgive us for offending you today!”
Ashton nodded. “You’re a smart man. Don’t show your face in Javonbury again. Since your son is gone, you can work on getting a little one. Of course, if you insist on getting revenge, I’ll be here waiting for you.
“But the next time this happens, I won’t be satisfied with an apology while on your knees. You’ll atone for it with your life. Now leave!”
“Thank you, Mr. Gray!”
Frank felt like he’d been spared the death sentence. He was covered in sweat.
“Let’s go!”
Dragging Yvonne with him, Frank gathered his people and fled with his tail between his legs.
Ashton’s might had honestly terrified him. He wanted to leave Javonbury tonight, never to return. As for getting revenge? Never! His life mattered more than anything else.
Once the Emersons were gone, Ashton turned to the dazed Roxy. He walked up to her and smirked. “Got a taste of the power I have? Does it scare you yet?”
