Kayla, staring at Ashton’s smug expression, was stunned beyond words. He was downright insane!

“That’s right. I did it on purpose,” Ashton confirmed with a laugh.

“You’re deliberately trying to antagonize the Sage? Aren’t you scared that he might kill you?” Kayla questioned gravely.

Instead of answering that question, he turned to Natalie and the others and told them to leave. He would carry out the rest of his plan alone.

“I’m doing this to force his hand. Unless he doesn’t care about his reputation anymore, he’s certainly going to send someone to kill me today. And if he can’t kill me, he’ll send someone to kill Hazel and Rhonda instead,” Ashton said darkly.

Kayla was having a hard time keeping up. “I can understand why the Sage wants to kill you, but why would he want Hazel and Rhonda dead?”

Smirking, Ashton explained, “Because the moment he signed that agreement and lost them to me, they stopped being his daughter and lover. They became a reminder of his humiliation instead.

“Based on what I know of him, since their existence is a disgrace to him, he would certainly kill them off. As long as they’re dead, his reputation wouldn’t be affected. He could even pin their deaths on me.

“He’s killing two birds with one stone.”

“But that’s still his daughter and lover! I don’t think he’d be that heartless,” Kayla argued, shaking her head.

Taking in Kayla’s naive expression, Ashton said grimly, “Do you think the Sage relied on sentimentality to rule over the criminal underworld of Javonbury for decades? Certainly not. He’s been able to do it because he’s a cold and ruthless man. To him, nothing matters more than his own interests.”

Kayla was still doubtful. “Well, I can send some people to keep Hazel and Rhonda safe. You shouldn’t be alone, either. The Sage has plenty of experts under him.”

Ashton shook his head. “The legionnaires mustn’t show up on the scene, or else the Sage will choose to avoid taking any risks and continue to bide his time, waiting for the right moment to strike.

“I’m going to deliver the perfect opportunity to him tonight, so that he’ll send his people over to kill me, as well as Hazel and Rhonda.”

“What do you mean?” Kayla gasped in shock.

“I’ve already instructed Louie to move Hazel and Rhonda to the place I prepared in advance. Later on, I’ll head over there alone. You should return to the residence and accompany Mr. Clarkson Senior.”

“You’re going to head over there alone? Aren’t you worried about getting yourself killed?” Kayla exclaimed, her brows arching.

“The Sage doesn’t have what it takes to kill me, even though he wants to!” Ashton declared confidently. “Tonight, I’ll be alone with Hazel and Rhonda. Once he confirms that this is true, he’ll send his people over.

“When the time comes, I’ll take those people out. At the same time, I’ll use them to convince Hazel and Rhonda to submit to my command. Then, I’ll get them to tell me about the Sage’s secrets. That’ll make it even easier for us to take him down.”
