Ashton’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Rhonda, but soon, he shook his head and said, “That’s impossible! If you’re a virgin, how could Edmund be your son? He couldn’t have popped out of nowhere.”
“He was born through surrogacy,” Rhonda said quietly.
Ashton scrutinized her again, finally noting just how sensitive Rhonda was to his touch. Her reaction was indeed unusual for a woman who’d been with a man before.
“So that’s why you hate the Sage so much? He can’t even let you enjoy the pleasures of being a woman?” he remarked with a chuckle.
Rhonda bit her lip and said nothing.
“But why?” Ashton wondered. “You’re a beautiful woman, Ms. Lott. I’m sure any man would be attracted to you. Even if the Sage is pretty old, he’s still a man. There’s no way he’s not tempted…”
“How should I know why…”
At the mention of this, Rhonda looked rather angered.
Ashton’s eyes narrowed, and he abruptly laughed. “I figured it out. The Sage, the ruler of Javonbury’s criminal underworld, probably can’t get it up. He’s not even a proper man!”
Rhonda and Hazel both stiffened. It seemed like they’d thought of something, for their expressions became grim.
Ashton’s eyes flashed darkly as well. If the Sage did indeed suffer from erectile dysfunction, Ashton had even more ammunition to deal with him now.
Soon, he snapped out of his thoughts and stared at the seductive Rhonda again. She was indeed his type, looking like a juicy apple that he wanted to bite into and slowly savor.
“Alright. I won’t touch you before the Sage is dead. But at the time, you must also obey every other command of mine before I die,” Ashton said.
Rhonda secretly exhaled in relief. She knew that saving herself from having to sleep with Ashton was the extent of what she could negotiate. If she asked for anything more, she would truly rile up the terrifying man.
“Okay,” she said as she lowered her head, her expression still haughty and reluctant.
“That’s better,” Ashton said.
He went back to his seat and settled Rhonda on his lap. It felt great to admire the sensual Rhonda while watching the lively Hazel perform a dance for him.
Instead of being confined to marriage, he preferred enjoying a life of freedom like this.
“Don’t celebrate just yet. The Sage is a lot more terrifying than you can imagine. If you’ve set up a trap, he won’t be coming over. And if you didn’t, you’ll be dying tonight!” Rhonda declared.
She no longer tried to resist Ashton’s caressing. She wanted to stay alive and watch him die before her eyes–or watch him kill Flint, the man who’d ruined her life.
As long as Ashton didn’t force himself on her before that, she would resign herself to whichever fate played out.
Besides, it was strangely thrilling to be held in a man’s arms like that. Even though she hated to admit it, she enjoyed this feeling very much.

“Is that so? Let’s just wait and see. Soon, you two will get to enjoy the show I prepared.”
Ashton stared out into the night sky, his lips curling into a menacing smirk.

Over at Grandcrest Estate, as the night stretched on, a dangerous tension coursed through the air.
Flint’s expression was grim as he dismissed everyone else, leaving only Irina behind.
“Have you located Hazel and Rhonda?” he asked.
Flint’s eyes flashed even more murderously when he recalled the arrogant Ashton holding onto Hazel and Rhonda.
Nodding, Irina reported, “I’ve found them, sir. They’re in a villa on the outskirts of the city. There are no guards around, just Ashton…”
“What are they doing?” Flint questioned, his voice turning colder.
