Kenneth was drenched in cold sweat. The crushing despair from the endless hell he’d once tasted surged back, swallowing his mind whole. He couldn’t understand how Ashton had pulled this off. He had confirmed the malevolent energy was no longer affecting him!

Ashton scoffed. “I simply reawakened the malevolent energy that originally belonged to you. You didn’t keep your promise to me, so why should I save you? Accept your fate.”

With that, he wrapped an arm around Sheila and turned to leave.

“Don’t go!”

Panic seized Kenneth. He could feel his life force being drained as the malevolent energy rampaged through his organs and corroded his flesh like a furious beast. If this continued, he was as good as dead!

Regret flooded him to the core. If he’d known things would come to this, he would have agreed to Ashton’s terms. What mattered more than his life?

“Honey, what’s happening to you? Don’t scare me! Did that punk Ashton do something to you? You can’t let him get away with this! How about we seize him now and force him to save you?” Jane asked frantically when she saw how agonized Kenneth was.

“Dad, you can’t let Ashton off!” Bradley bellowed.

“Shut up, both of you!”

Kenneth shoved Jane and Bradley aside furiously. He tried to chase Ashton, but he stumbled and crashed to the floor, his face twisted in pain. “Shelly, don’t let Dr. Gray leave! Save me! I know I messed up! Tell Dr. Gray to save me–you can’t just stand there and watch me die!”

Sheila faltered, a complicated look crossing her face. She was disappointed in Kenneth, but she couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless enough to watch him die right in front of her.

“Babe…” she said softly.

Ashton brushed his fingers over her earlobe, toying with it until she shivered. Then, he said, “Everyone has their own fate.”

“Dr. Gray, I was wrong! I’ll sign the transfer agreement now and give Shelly 50 percent of Beldon Group’s shares! She’ll be Beldon Group’s chairwoman from now on and have full control over everything there!” Kenneth cried.

He was truly terrified now. Under the shadow of death, he finally understood that beyond his life, everything else was just external baggage.

“50 percent was the price before. Now, it’s not enough,” Ashton said coldly.

“I want you to transfer 70 percent of the shares, and I want Jane and Bradley expelled from the Beldon family. Ban them from ever setting foot in the Beldon residence again. They are never to appear before Sheila, Can you do that?”

Ashton looked down at Kenneth, who was sprawled on the floor. His tone was ice–cold and left no room for argument.

Kenneth felt his heart drop. This demand crossed his bottom line.

“Honey, you can’t do that! Brad is your flesh and blood, and I’ve been with you for so many years. You can’t treat us like that!” Jane cried.

“Dad, don’t listen to this quack’s nonsense! You’ll be fine! I’ll go get you a new doctor right now. Just hang on!” Bradley was equally frantic.

At this point, both mother and son would rather Kenneth die. That way, at least they could claim two–thirds of Beldon Group’s assets. If Kenneth agreed to Ashton’s terms, they would be left with nothing, and years of scheming would go up in smoke.

“Dr. Gray, I can transfer 80 percent of the shares to Sheila. Can’t you let Jane and Brad stay? They’ve been with me for so long. Kicking them to the curb would be too cruel,” Kenneth pleaded, forcing himself to endure the pain.
