Ashton turned back and swept a cold gaze over her. Then, he sent a thread of inner energy into her body to stabilize her injuries. He asked coolly, “Who were those people? Why were you being chased?”

“You’re… Lord Reaper? The new deputy head of the Legion?” Eunice peered at his face, but the haze of energy completely obscured his features. Only those sharp, oppressive eyes were visible, and they made her heart tremble.

“He looks like he’d be a total heartthrob…” she murmured under her breath.

“Answer my question,” Ashton said coldly.

He didn’t have a good impression of Eunice, who was Roxy’s best friend. If she weren’t a member of the Legion, he wouldn’t have bothered saving her.

She jolted and said respectfully, “My lord, I received a tip about the location of the Assassin Guild’s headquarters and went to gather intel. I slipped up and exposed my identity, which is why they hunted me down. Thank you for saving me today!”

“How foolish!” Ashton snapped. “You actually dared to slip into the Assassin Guild’s base with your level of skill? Is the Legion full of people this ignorant and dim? No wonder it’s fallen so far!”

His reprimand was merciless.

Eunice’s face burned with shame. She lowered her head, not daring to talk back. Oddly enough, instead of thinking his scolding was unfair, she felt her admiration for Ashton deepen.

“Lie down,” he ordered.

She obediently reclined halfway.

He pulled out a few silver needles and set them into her key acupoints. Then, he pressed his left palm against her flat abdomen and began treating her injuries.

In an instant, a warm current flowed through Eunice’s body. She couldn’t help shifting slightly and lightly wrapping her arms around him. Her long legs pressed together as a strange sensation surged within her.

“That’s enough. Get up,” Ashton said mildly.

“Okay…” She’d lost all her sharpness in front of him. She was docile as she followed his lead, her cheeks still tinged pink. She lifted her head carefully, but she still couldn’t make out his face, no matter what she did.

“Do you feel better?” he asked.

Just hearing his voice made her heart flutter. She nodded vigorously and said, “Much better, my lord! Thank you for saving my life!”
