Two hours had passed since Celia disappeared, and the sky was steadily getting darker.

At the police station, Harry Gibson’s face was grave as he pointed to the security footage, saying, “Ms. Sloan, we checked the cameras down every street and finally found the last sighting of Celia from a camera outside a small convenience store.”

He continued, “We found that Celia left Lakeview Heights and headed north along Centhill Street. That road does lead to Paramount Hospital. But along the way, right in front of this alley, an unmarked van passed by, and a man who was covered from head to toe took Celia right off the street!”

Roxy’s and Renee’s eyes both brimmed with tears when they saw the hazy footage of Celia attempting to break free from her kidnapper while she was being taken.

“Please rescue Celia right away, Captain Gibson!” Roxy frantically urged.

She’d heard about a child–trafficking ring that had been operating in Javonbury recently. Dozens of children had already gone missing. Just a few days earlier, three children’s bodies had been found. They were the ones who’d gone missing not long ago.

Roxy’s body trembled. She couldn’t bear to let her mind entertain the worst outcome.

“Ms. Sloan, our people are following every lead, but… this will take time.”

Harry’s brows furrowed. Summit Group was one of Javonbury’s largest taxpayers and had a great deal of influence in the city. Therefore, the kidnapping of Roxy’s daughter was indeed a major case.

However, the perpetrators were professional and heavily armed. It would be extremely difficult to capture them. “You don’t need to be too worried, Roxy. We must have faith in the police. They’ll definitely bring the criminals to justice. Fortune favors the good–hearted. I’m sure Celia will be fine,” Calvin reassured Roxy.

Alas, Roxy was in no state to hear such empty assurances. She seemed almost unhinged as she declared, “If anything happens to Celia, I’ll make sure every single one of you suffers the consequences!”

“I’ll stay with you the whole time, Roxy,” Calvin chimed in gently.

Truth be told, when he found out that Celia had been kidnapped, not only did he not feel a shred of sorrow or anxiety, but he even felt rather thrilled.

He wanted nothing more than to have the worst happen to Celia, who was a thorn in his side. That way, the only thing that was a hindrance to this relationship with Roxy would be gone, too. And in the future, it was the child he’d have with Roxy that could inherit the entire Sloan family fortune!

Moreover, Celia was Ashton’s daughter. Just imagining the pain Ashton would experience when he found out Celia had died made Calvin secretly giddy.

This felt like yet another affirmation that fate was on his side. He was indeed the king of the world!

“Ms. Sloan, I know how you feel. To be honest, we’re not the only ones handling this matter. Our superiors have sent an investigation team to probe the heinous trafficking cases in Javonbury. I believe it won’t be long before we’ll have a breakthrough in the case,” Harry assured Roxy.

Roxy’s heart sank. She knew what it meant if the police administration had sent a special team over to investigate the trafficking cases. It meant the case was far beyond what the local police precinct could handle, which implied that the culprits were particularly dangerous!

“Be straight with me, Captain Gibson. Who took my daughter?”

“I’m sorry, Ms. Sloan, but that’s classified information. Please have faith in the force. We will do everything we can to rescue your daughter and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Roxy slammed her hand against the table. “If I wait for you people to save the victims, it’ll be too late for my daughter! She would’ve been harmed by then. I can’t wait any longer. Tell me who took her. I’ll offer a handsome reward to get her back!”
