Chapter 469
Beneath the moonlight, Roxy’s usually cold expression carried a sense of vulnerability that was never seen on her features before. Her eyes shimmered with tears, stirring pity in anyone who looked at her.
She was dressed in simple denim shorts and a white T–shirt, with her hair neatly pinned up. This made her look like the 18–year–old she once was. It was as if time had left no trace on her. She’d simply grown into her womanly charms, becoming even more alluring.
As Ashton stared at the beautiful Roxy, he felt as though he’d gone back into the past.
She seemed like the Roxy from a decade ago again. Her smile was just as breathtaking, the very vision of beauty. It was why he’d fallen hopelessly in love with her and made her his entire world.
Sylvia immediately grew wary. Even she had to admit that Roxy looked exceptionally mesmerizing tonight. The combination of her youthful air and womanly charms made every single move she made wordlessly captivating.
But unlike before, Roxy’s bearing now seemed even more refined and elevated, like an angel unmarred by the darkness of life.
That was why Sylvia had lost back then…
Although Sylvia’s lips parted, she didn’t say anything in the end. She wasn’t going to interfere with Ashton’s
choice at a time like this.
“Please save my mom, Ashton…”
Roxy bit her lip, looking at Ashton with a familiar tenderness in her eyes, as though she wanted to evoke the happy memories from the past they once shared.
Ashton’s mind slowly cleared again. The face before him now was no longer the same youthful face he’d fallen in love with ten years ago.
It was like rereading a familiar book. Even though some things might feel new to him, the ending wasn’t going to change. Such was life.
His relationship with Roxy had long since ended for good.
Gaze cold, Ashton said calmly, “My apologies, but that’s your mother. She has nothing to do with me. You’re asking the wrong person for help.”
He put his arm around Sylvia and moved to walk past Roxy. He was still keen to share an intimate moment with Sylvia, his little vixen. He didn’t have the time to worry about whether Tanya, that old hag, was on her deathbed.
If she really did die from the pain tonight, he’d simply send flowers to her funeral.
“Hold it right there!”
Roxy stuck her hand out to block Ashton’s path. She didn’t expect him to be this heartless, even when she’d already humbled herself to this extent. He was showing no regard for their prior relationship at all!
Didn’t they all say that ex–married couples would still have lingering affection for each other? How could he be so cold toward her?

“If anything happens to my mom today, Ashton, you’re her killer! She was your mother–in–law for ten years! How can you be so heartless?” Roxy questioned him.
As it was, she’d already anticipated that he would refuse her, but she had no choice. She had to give it a shot.
Alas, reality had given her a harsh slap in the face yet again.
Ashton was far too cold and merciless.
“I was never the heartless one. Now that you bring this up, if it hadn’t been for me, your mom would’ve died ages ago! You should be thanking me instead. Anyway, enough of this. I’ve got things to do, so stop getting in my way. This is completely unlike your usual proud and aloof self,” Ashton said curtly.
Just then, they all heard an anguished cry ringing out from the Sloan residence. Tanya was screaming her heart
out.
“The soundproofing needs work,” Ashton remarked with a chuckle.
He led Sylvia past Roxy, leaving Roxy alone to stand in the wind, looking forlorn.
“My dear brother–in–law! Please don’t go!” Robert abruptly called out.
He rushed up to Ashton and, between pants, cried out, “Out of the goodness of your heart, please just save my
mom…”
