Behind Robert, Renee came running over with a conflicted look on her face.

Raising his brows, Ashton remarked to Robert in an indifferent tone, “Not once in the last decade have you ever treated me like your brother–in–law, so why are you doing it now? Besides, why should I save some vicious hag who cursed me out and humiliated both my mother and me? Get out of my way!”

Robert’s expression darkened, but after considering Ashton’s strength, he dared not act as arrogantly as he did in the past. He could only plead again, “Please, just do it for Renee’s sake and check on my mother. After all, she’s Renee’s mother, too. What do you say?”

Ashton frowned.

Renee was the only one he cared about in the entire Sloan family. After recalling the way she’d professed her love for him back then, he wavered a little.

“Renee! Get over here and beg Ashton to help!” Robert quickly cried out.

Renee approached Roxy and asked quietly, “Roxy, have you admitted that you were wrong to Ashton yet?”

Regardless of everything, Tanya was still Renee’s mother. She couldn’t just stand back and let Tanya die without trying to help her.

Ashton hesitated.

“Don’t bother begging him for help, Renee! He’s as vicious as a viper. He’ll only be happy once he sees that every single one of us has died off. Let’s go!” Roxy growled.

Renee’s eyes flashed with disappointment.

“Fine. I’ll take a look at her for your sake, Renee, but I make no promises as to whether I can save her life,” Ashton said.

Renee’s face lit up with a brilliant smile, while Roxy’s heart twisted in pain.

Ashton had once worshipped the ground she walked on, fulfilling her every request. Yet now, he was being nothing but cruel toward her. He wouldn’t even bother to spare her a glance, but he was showering Renee with such care and concern.

The stark contrast in his attitude deeply upset her. She felt both hurt and jealous.

“Wait for me at home, Sylvia. I’ll be right there,” Ashton said gently.
