Eunice froze as a terrifying possibility took shape. She suddenly thought of the Grim Reaper’s silhouette, and her delicate frame shuddered violently.
She hurriedly dismissed the thought with a shake of her head, thinking to herself, “That’s out of the question! Ashton couldn’t possibly have anything to do with Lord Reaper! He’s nothing more than a piece of trash!”
“What’s the matter, Eunice?” Roxy asked, observing Eunice’s quivering body with genuine concern.
Eunice managed to squeeze out a strained smile, replying, “I’m fine, Roxy. I’m just looking forward to seeing Ashton get humiliated tonight; he’s never going to get his hands on that Compendium of Special Constitutions with Clay standing in his way!”
Eunice sighed inwardly. She actually would have rather seen Ashton walk away with the Compendium of Special Constitutions, especially since the Dominion Vanguard and the Legion were sworn enemies.
She, however, still knew how deep the Dominion Vanguard’s pockets were. There was just no way for Ashton to hold his own against that kind of money.
Ashton’s pupils contracted slightly, and just as he was about to give up, a clear, resonant female voice rang
out.
He heard Wanda announcing, “I must apologize, ladies and gentlemen, as the Curios Chamber has arrived
at a spontaneous resolution to conclude today’s auction. Thank you for coming, and we’ll see you next time.

“Huh? What’s going on here?”
In that instant, a wave of shock swept through the crowd as Wanda’s announcement settled in, and everyone in attendance widened their eyes in sheer confusion and disbelief.
How could they suddenly end the auction when the bidding had just reached its most critical moment? Who was the rightful owner of the Compendium of Special Constitutions, then?
“What’s happening? Why did they suddenly end the auction? There’s something very strange about this whole situation!”
“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!”
“What’s the meaning of this, Ms. Shepherd?” Clay asked with a furrowed brow. He had been savoring the moment of putting Ashton in his place, so Wanda’s sudden declaration to end the auction now was no different than a direct insult to him.
“I mean exactly what I said–the Curios Chamber reserves the right to end an auction at any time. I’m sure you’re aware of that, Mr. Jernigan?” Wanda’s tone toward Clay was cold and unfriendly, a stark contrast to how she had treated Ashton.
She was clearly siding with Ashton.
Clay’s face twitched with rage. “I don’t care what’s going on between you and Ashton, but the Curios Chamber operates on principles and regulations–it isn’t your personal playground to do with as you

please, Ms. Shepherd.
“If you can’t provide a valid reason for this, I’ll be filing a formal complaint with your headquarters. I doubt even someone with your status will be able to survive the fallout once they hand down their disciplinary
action.”
“Is that a threat, Mr. Jernigan?” Wanda asked, glaring at Clay.
Clay’s expression faltered under Wanda’s overbearing gaze. He lowered his head slightly and said, “I wouldn’t dare. I’m merely seeking a bit of fairness, Ms. Shepherd.”
“You want fairness, huh?”
Wanda let out a scoff of pure disdain. “You would do well to remember that within the Curios Chamber, our word is law, Mr. Jernigan. You are in no position to lecture us on what is or isn’t fair.
“If you’re looking for someone to blame, you’re out of luck–this wasn’t just my call. It was an internal directive agreed upon by every presiding member of the Curios Chamber.”
Clay was stunned, wondering if the Curios Chamber had truly authorized the end of the auction. He simply couldn’t wrap his head around it. He eventually demanded gravely, “Who gets the Compendium of Special Constitutions, then?”
Wanda looked at Clay as if he were a complete fool, a contemptuous smile playing on her lips.
She then picked up the Compendium of Special Constitutions and, swaying her slender waist with a model- like stride, walked toward Ashton in Private Suite No. 1. That left the audience suspended between bewilderment and infatuation.
She asked, “Do you still remember what I told you before this, Ashton? That I’d give you a gift in return for your help?”
