Ashton couldn’t be bothered to respond to Roxy’s interrogation.

“Mommy, it was Daddy who saved me. Don’t scold Daddy,” Celia said through the phone.

Hearing that, Roxy became even more outraged. “Ashton! You’re even lying to a child now! It was Calvin who called the police and saved us. How dare you have the audacity to take credit for it yourself? How shameless have you become?

“You really are stooping so low just to get custody of Celia! Ashton, I order you to return Celia to my house immediately!”

She was reminded of how she’d been bound and threatened by those criminals earlier, so she took all of her anger out on Ashton.

However, he simply ended the call.

“Ashton!” Roxy screeched.

How dare he end the call on her! That was outrageous!

“Ashton is nothing but a piece of trash, Roxy! You need to cut all ties with him completely!” Calvin seized the opportunity to vilify Ashton further.

Eunice approached Roxy and asked, “What’s wrong, Ms. Sloan?”

Swiftly composing herself, Roxy said, “It’s nothing, Captain Clark. My daughter is safe. She’s back home.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. It was my ex–husband, Ashton Gray, who took her away.”

Looking rather puzzled, Eunice asked, “When did he take her away?”

“He probably came in with the police officers.”

“And he only took Celia with him? He didn’t care about you at all?” Eunice questioned. Being a woman as well, she frowned at the thought of that.

“Ashton is a selfish and heartless man! You have no idea what he’s capable of, Captain Clark. Ever since he and Roxy filed for divorce, he’s become utterly unreasonable! I can’t believe he’d actually leave Roxy behind like that!” Calvin fumed in righteous indignation.

Eunice nodded, her impression of Ashton sinking further. It’s very fortunate that you’ve filed for divorce from Ashton, Ms. Sloan. Take my advice and let Celia have as little contact with him as possible. The environment in which a child is brought up has a great impact on them!”

Roxy agreed and said, “Thank you, Captain Clark. I know what to do. If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back now.”

“Go ahead. Do your best to comfort Celia.”

Roxy and Calvin quickly left.

Eunice sighed as she watched the proud Roxy head off. “Why would such a wonderful woman marry a guy like Ashton?”

Hector came over and asked, “Is Ms. Sloan leaving?”

“Her ex–husband, Ashton, took their daughter, Celia, home Can you believe it, Captain Morrison? Not only does that Ashton spout nothing but empty boasts, but he has no sense of responsibility at all! I can’t believe he’d

abandon his ex–wife and only take his daughter away!

“Men are all scum!” Eunice ranted.

“You said Ashton took Celia away? And they’re even back home already?” Hector asked.

“That’s right.”

“That can’t be!” Hector exclaimed, his gaze hardening. “As far as I know, the police officers just arrived. How could he have taken Celia away in such a short time?”

“Now that you mention it, it does seem rather strange. Could it be that he was already here at the East Port?” Eunice deduced.

“But why would he be here beforehand?”

“Well…” Eunice trailed off.

Hector swept his gaze across the ship. When he recalled the inexplicable sense of pressure he felt earlier today when Ashton showed up, he lowered his voice and asked, “Do you think it’s possible that Ashton tracked the Wraiths down to the East Port and saved us?”

“That’s impossible!” Eunice declared without a shred of doubt. “We all saw what that high master was capable of, Captain Morrison, not to mention the other experts among the Wraiths.

“How could Ashton possibly take them all down? Don’t tell me he’s an S–ranked expert. I’ve never seen one that young before!”

“That’s true… Well, forget about it. Let’s just prepare the paperwork. I’ll submit a report to Mr. Clarkson Senior,” Hector said.

He had a feeling that Ashton was no ordinary man, but he didn’t bother looking further into it.

“Has Mr. Clarkson Senior come to Javonbury?”

“That’s right. I gave him a quick summary of the situation, and he decided to make the trip to Javonbury. It makes sense that the Legion would pay close attention to the emergence of a mysterious S–ranked expert,” Hector said.

20 minutes later, Roxy and Calvin got back to Lakeview Heights.

“Renee! Where’s Celia?”

“Hey, Roxy. She’s next door, over at Ms. Langley’s place…” Renee replied.

“How could you let Celia go to her house!” Roxy fumed.

She stormed over to the villa next door in a fit of rage. As soon as she got near, she heard Celia’s cheerful laughter. It was completely unlike the way Celia had been behaving a the Sloan residence the last couple of days.

Ever since Ashton left, not once did Roxy see a smile on Celia’s face.

Scowling, Roxy slammed her hand against the door and screamed, “Ashton! Give Celia back to me!”

The door opened with a click.

Sylvia stepped out in a black spaghetti–strapped dress that accentuated her figure. Meeting Roxy’s gaze, she said with a smile, “It doesn’t seem very polite of you to bang on my door like that, Ms. Sloan.”

Sparks flew between the two women.

Inside the house, Melody looked on with wide–eyed curiosity, eager for the drama. How exciting this was! “Where’s Celia? Give her back to me!” Roxy demanded coldly.

“What’s with that tone of yours, Ms. Sloan? Celia and Ashton are having a blast together. Can’t you hear how happy Celia’s laughter sounds? I don’t think she’s been laughing as freely over at the Sloan residence, right?” Sylvia remarked provokingly as she stood in front of Roxy.

“Celia! Come to Mommy. I’m taking you home!” Roxy instructed.

She bit her lip, feeling deeply aggrieved.

She’d risked her life to save Celia, nearly losing it in the process, yet Celia was happily hanging out with Ashton- with Sylvia among them, too. She, on the other hand, felt like an outsider in this situation.

“Mommy…”

Celia came running over when she saw Roxy.

After confirming that Celia was fine, Roxy hugged her with tears in her eyes. But soon, she threw a baleful glare at Ashton and snarled, “How could you take Celia away without even saying a word! Do you know how worried I was about her? Why are you so damn selfish?”

“Mommy, it really was Daddy who saved me. He defeated all the bad guys!”

Roxy was startled. Was Ashton really the one who saved her and Celia?
