Chapter 53
As soon as that thought occurred to Roxy, she immediately ismissed it. That was most certainly impossible. Ashton must have lied to Celia!
“You’re still young, Celia. You don’t know just how depraved a person can be. Some people would come up with the most ridiculous lies just to further their own goals!” Roxy declared.
Then, she turned to Ashton and warned, “I don’t know what you said to Celia, Ashton, but don’t you think you’re being far too despicable? How can you lie to a child?
“Don’t think that you can get custody of Celia just by doing so. That’s never going to happen! I won’t let Celia live with a father like you!”
Her hatred and contempt for Ashton had reached its limit.
“You seem to forget who was the one who lost Celia, Roxy! If all you care about is your first love, then you can leave Celia in my care!” Ashton snapped.
“I’m warning you. If anything happens to Celia again, and you refuse to inform me at once, I’ll do whatever it takes to take Celia away! Am I clear?”
Ashton had no interest in explaining anything to Roxy. Throughout the whole time, he didn’t even bother looking at her properly. He no longer cared about her, so naturally, her opinions were irrelevant to him.
He only allowed Roxy to take Celia home for two reasons. First of all, he hadn’t settled down yet. And secondly, what he did today was an insult to the Obsidian Council. He was worried they would come after him for revenge, and Celia would get caught up in the process.
Besides, even though Roxy was an incredibly stupid woman it couldn’t be denied that she genuinely cared about Celia. This was the main reason why he didn’t bother holding her accountable for what had happened.
“I’ll keep Celia safe. This won’t happen again!” Roxy declared before leaving with Celia.
“Remember to come over and play some other time, Celia!‘ll play hide and seek with you!” Sylvia called out gently.
Celia secretly nodded, careful not to let Roxy notice her response.
Roxy’s expression was icy. She swore to put all her energy and focus into expanding her business empire. Once the year–long wager was up, she wasn’t going to let Ashton see Celia ever again!
Back at the Sloan residence, the weary Roxy glanced apologetically at Calvin and said, “I’m sorry. I’m too tired to join you for dinner today. You’ve had a long day too. You should hurry back to the hotel and get some rest.”
“Why don’t you just get some rest first, Roxy? I can wait. I want to stay with you tonight,” Calvin said tenderly.
However, Roxy shook her head and said, “Let’s take a raincheck.”
Despite the look of absolute reluctance on his face, Calvin could only nod and reply, “Alright, then. Get as much rest as you can. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Elsewhere, at a certain luxurious residence, Hector brough all of the information regarding the operation involving the Wraiths to a parlor in the house.
Lawrence Clarkson, an elderly man in a three–piece suit, was sitting still while a young woman, Kayla Clarkson, prepared a pot of black tea beside him.

“You’re in frail health, Grandpa. Why did you insist on coming to Javonbury? Even if there is an S–ranked expert here, it doesn’t seem necessary for you to go to such an extent,” Kayla said.
“I don’t have many years left to live, Kayla, but the legacy of the Wraiths must carry on…” Lawrence replied.
He swiftly flipped through the documents. As the words flashed through his mind, he was able to form vivid images from them. He closed his eyes, making it impossible for anyone to see what was on his mind.
Ten minutes later, he opened his eyes and pointed at the page listing down Ashton’s information. “If I’m right, it was this man, Ashton Gray, who attacked the Wraiths and the A–ranked expert.”
Hector was stunned to hear Lawrence come to that conclusion. He’d considered that possibility as well, but it was still rather unbelievable.
“Is it possible that you’re mistaken, Mr. Clarkson Senior?” Hector asked. “The person who took them down had to be an S–ranked expert, but Ashton is only in his late 20s.
“Moreover, to my knowledge, Ashton is now in the process of finalizing a divorce and has been kicked out of the family without a thing to his name precisely because he’s entirely useless. How can he be such a formidable martial arts expert?”
“There’s no shortage of geniuses in this world,” Lawrence commented before coughing lightly. “Based on the information here, I even suspect that he could very well be an SS–ranked expert!”
