Ashton’s Drakeborne lineage was ignited within him, his body burning like a dragon trying to break free from its shackles.

“I’ll make the arrangements right away, darling!” Elise declared, feeling quite excited as well.

Deep down, she’d been worried about the showdown between Ashton and Flint that was coming in a few days. He’d been ruling the criminal underworld for decades now and was definitely not someone easy to deal with!

It would be great if Ashton could have a cultivation breakthrough now.

Upon entering the hidden room, Ashton immediately sat cross–legged and began the Cosmic Breathing Technique. As the Drakell technique surged within him, wisps of energy rose like a tornado to try to break through the shackles of his cultivation realm.

In an instant, the black energy wrapped itself around Ashton, enveloping him like raging flames. All of his organs quaked, as if their very essence were being refined.

Ashton could clearly sense that the power of his Drakeborne lineage had awakened even more, his bones growing stronger as well. He was only one final crucial step away from breaking through the limits of the transcendent realm.

Half an hour later, the dark glow dissipated, leaving ripples in the air.

Ashton exhaled before sighing wistfully. “The shackles keeping me away from the divine realm have cracked, but to truly have a breakthrough, I’m still missing a vital catalyst! I just need a tiny bit more… Maybe a perilous fight might be what I need?”

He shook his head. It hadn’t occurred to him that reaching the divine realm would be this hard. No wonder so few of them existed.

“Is the Sage a divine realm expert?” Ashton wondered, his eyes narrowed.

He wasn’t at all discouraged, however. He fully believed that his cultivation realm was like a spring. The more it was held back now, the higher it’d soar once he had a breakthrough, and the more powerful he’d be as a divine realm expert.

The divide between two divine realm experts could also be worlds apart.

He was in the middle of his thoughts when Lawrence called. Answering the phone, he greeted, “Hey, Mr. Clarkson Senior.”

“Ashton! I need you to head over to Luminel Abbey, on the west side of the city, immediately! Hector and Eunice have gone there with their team to carry out an A–tier mission. It was just supposed to be a few Jalunese bandits, but we’ve now discovered that something else is afoot at the abbey.

“A group of Jalunese people are using it as a base to concoct poison gases. There might even be a transcendent realm expert standing guard there!”

Lawrence sounded quite frantic. “The Jalunese people are vicious. I’m afraid that something bad might happen to Eunice and Hector, so I’ll have to trouble you to head over there at once.”

While Hector and Eunice were still on their feet, they sported injuries as well. Their expressions were grim. They could feel their inner energy slowly dissipating with each second.

They’d been poisoned the moment they set foot into Luminel Abbey.

Even more horrifyingly, they didn’t even know where the poison gas was coming from. Right now, they could barely keep it from encroaching further into their bodies.

“Casoria’s Legion? I didn’t think you guys would find this place!”

Buford Snead, a short, ugly man standing beneath a statue, let out a sinister cackle.

“Since you’ve found the base of our poison gas operation, all of you will simply have to vanish from the face of existence forever. It works out perfectly. We needed a batch of new martial arts experts to be our test subjects anyway. You came just in time!”
