Rustling sounds rang out as figures emerged from all directions, forming a tight circle around Ashton. Their killing intent locked onto him, like a pack of hyenas who’d caught the scent of blood!
Three men were in the lead, and they were all transcendent realm experts. They seemed to blend right into the darkness around them, their expressions menacing.
“Who are you people?” Ashton asked calmly as he released his spiritual consciousness, his inner energy surging.
One of the three, whose codename was Raven, spoke up. “Have you heard of the Shadow Blade before, Ashton?”
His eyes glinted with enormous power as he fixed them on Ashton, as if attempting to drag Ashton into a constructed dimension, forcing Ashton to submit fully to his will.
Ashton didn’t bother avoiding Raven’s gaze. He simply stared right back at him. Their eyes met, and their respective ocular techniques seemed to clash head–on. Space swiftly warped around them, like cracks forming everywhere.
In the end, Raven’s expression hardened. His eyes began to sting. Forcibly looking away, he dared not lock gazes with Ashton any longer.
Raven gasped for breath, as if he had just returned from the gates of hell. He stared at Ashton darkly. “Looks like the Sage was right after all. Your mastery of ocular techniques is unparalleled. Even I almost got affected by it.”
“The Sage? The Shadow Blade?”
Ashton swept his gaze across the surroundings and smiled. “So, you were sent by The Sage. Looks like he and the Dominion Vanguard have established a complete partnership.”
“We won’t make things difficult for you, Ashton. As long as you stay here and do nothing for half an hour, we’ll leave. How about it?” Raven suggested while deliberately putting some distance between himself and Ashton.
His instinct as an assassin told him that Ashton was highly dangerous.
“Half an hour, huh? By then, the time for the match between Clay and me would’ve passed, and I would’ve been declared the loser.” Ashton snorted. “You people sure have no scruples at all.”
“The only thing that matters is the outcome!” Raven replied.
“That’s true, but do you think you lot can hold me back? Aren’t you worried about dying here together?”
Ashton’s eyes were blazing with the lust for battle. He wasn’t the least bit afraid. On the contrary, he was thrilled.
He hadn’t been able to unleash his full power since reaching the semi–divine realm.
These people were destined to die tonight anyway, which made them perfect test subjects for him to figure out the true strength
of his cultivation.
Three transcendent realm experts and 17 S–ranked experts were just barely enough for him to test his mettle.
“I know you’re formidable, Ashton. The Sage has already warned us. That’s why our goal isn’t to kill you but to hold you up for 30 minutes.
“It shouldn’t be hard for three transcendent realm experts like us to keep you occupied for 30 minutes, no? Besides, we’ve also set up a deadly array here. You’re a sitting duck now!”
Void, one of the other transcendent realm experts, chimed in, “Would it be so bad for us to just sit here and chat for 30 minutes? Once it’s over, you can flee Javonbury, and we’ll have accomplished our mission as well. Everyone can walk away unscathed. What do you say?”
“Hahaha! You’re only a transcendent realm expert, Ashton. You won’t be at an advantage even if it comes down to a fight. Think
