Chapter 646
Josie found herself increasingly impressed as she watched Ashton. There was an undeniable chemistry at first sight, the kind of immediate liking that defied any logical explanation.
George’s expression turned slightly embarrassed as he glanced at Connor with a hint of hesitation.
Connor scowled after hearing everything Josie said. He scoffed with disdain. “You ought to know that you can’t judge a book by its cover, Mrs. Moore. Ashton is a mere lowlife, a beast of a man with no knowledge of the healing arts! He’s a charlatan looking for an easy mark in the Moore family!
“You’re going to make a grave mistake by entrusting Faye’s life to him! You can rest assured that the experts from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion are already on the case–and that’s all you need!”
Upon hearing that, Josie’s expression immediately hardened. She snapped at Connor, “Haven’t you ever heard that a person’s character shows on their face? Your people from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion have been here for ages, and Faye still hasn’t opened her eyes yet!
“Who the hell do you think you are to demand that we kick him out when I’m the one who invited him over?”
Josie held not a shred of goodwill toward those of the Heavenly Medical Pavilion, especially when it came to Connor and Francis. They were clearly untrustworthy, and she had no intention of letting her precious daughter marry someone from the Heavenly
Medical Pavilion.
She brushed aside the crowd, reached for Ashton, and led him directly to Faye’s side. She then asked with a smile, “You’re Ashton, right? Do you think Faye, my precious daughter, looks stunning, Ashton?”
Ashton was taken aback by Josie’s fervor. He could offer only a strained smile in response, replying, “Faye is stunning–clearly she takes after you, Mrs. Moore!”
“You’re certainly a smooth talker, Ashton!” Josie’s approval of Ashton grew ever stronger.
She lowered her voice and whispered, “You see, Faye has been unconscious for over a year, and we’ve exhausted every lead and consulted every renowned doctor, but to no avail.
“You must save Faye if you truly have the skills Wanda spoke of. I’ll gladly welcome you as my son–in–law, and I’ll even be the best mother–in–law you could ask for! How does that sound, Ashton?”
Josie’s gaze burned with fervor as she beheld Ashton, finding him increasingly pleasing to the eyes.
“I’ll do my best, Mrs. Moore,” Ashton replied. He could sense that Josie truly liked him, a stark contrast to his former mother–in
-law, Tanya.
Had Tanya not sown such discord in the past, he and Roxy would never have reached this bitter end.
“You have to give it everything you’ve got, Ashton! I simply won’t allow my precious Faye to be married off to that Francis. I’ve detested him from the start since he looked like a common crook.
“I made a vow to Faye that I’d find her a husband who truly deserves her, Ashton!” Josie declared fervently, treating Ashton with absolutely no social boundaries.
“If you don’t kick Ashton out right now, the Heavenly Medical Pavilion is walking away from this case. You ought to know that, given your daughter’s condition, she won’t be able to survive the night without our expertise, Mr. and Mrs. Moore!” Connor’s voice shook with fury.
He couldn’t stomach the cozy way Ashton was acting with Wanda, and seeing Josie treat Ashton like some prize was a total insult to his pride. He felt like he was being publicly humiliated right there and then.
George couldn’t help but furrow his brow. He looked over at Faye, whose vitality was becoming increasingly faint, then turned to Josie and whispered, “I think it’d be for the best if we ask Ashton to leave for the time being, Josie.

“You see, if the people from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion can’t do anything to help Faye, we can always bring Ashton back. They’re currently the only real shot Faye has left, Josie!”
Josie’s expression soured with displeasure, but as she watched Faye’s vitality slipping away bit by bit, she gave Connor and Francis a frosty look. She then turned her gaze to Tristan McGrath, the doctor from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion, who was busy administering acupuncture for Faye.
“It’d be fine if those from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion could heal Faye. What should we do if they fail and we end up neglecting the real divine doctor who could save Faye?”
