Chapter 648
Ashton’s voice was low, but his declaration struck the room like a bolt from the blue, triggering a localized storm of disbelief that swept across the faces of everyone present.
In that instant, everyone’s gaze shifted and focused on Ashton.
Wanda smiled faintly. She knew how good Ashton’s medical skills were because he had been the one to heal her illness back then. She was sure that he wouldn’t have spoken without being certain of success.
She had total confidence in him and felt an even stronger attraction toward him.
“You’re talking out of your ass!” Connor was the first to erupt in fury.
He pointed a trembling finger at Ashton and yelled, “What could you possibly know if even the doctors from the Heavenly Medical Pavilion are at their wits‘ end, Ashton? You’re just a buffoon acting above your station!”
He then turned to George and continued, “You should throw Ashton out this instant, Mr. Moore! You’ll be speeding up Faye’s death if you trust his lies!”
Francis‘ expression hardened. “You shouldn’t listen to a word this guy says, Mr. Moore! You see, with the help of the Heavenly Medical Pavilion, we can keep Faye alive for at least a few more days.
“I’m going to head back to the Heavenly Medical Pavilion to plead with the head to end his seclusion and handle this personally. I just need a bit more time, Mr. Moore!”
“Haven’t we given you enough time already?” Josie snapped as she stepped forward, looking extremely displeased. “You spoke so boastfully before and were so full of confidence in your promises, but look at the situation now–Faye still hasn’t regained consciousness!”
“I had no idea Faye’s condition was this dire when we started. Even Uncle Tristan was caught off guard, Mrs. Moore. I swear I’ll find a way. I’m certain that Faye can be saved once the head of the Heavenly Medical Pavilion emerges from his seclusion!” Francis insisted through gritted teeth.
He couldn’t bear the thought of losing this marriage alliance with the Moore family, let alone losing his claim on a woman as stunning as Faye.
“You won’t be fooling me, Francis! I know for a fact that the head of the Heavenly Medical Pavilion had declared that only a life- or–death emergency for the Heavenly Medical Pavilion itself could bring him out of seclusion!
“Do you really expect me to believe you can convince him to come out of his seclusion for Faye?” Josie snapped.
“I…” Francis trailed off, his expression locking up. He knew he couldn’t actually get the head of the Heavenly Medical Pavilion to come out of his seclusion. He was just saying it to buy himself more time.
He also wanted to prevent Ashton from getting a chance to treat Faye. He was sure that Ashton would fail, but he still wouldn’t risk even a fraction of a percent of a chance.
“You’ve got nothing left to say, huh?” Josie snapped at Francis before turning to Ashton. “You should come forward and give it a try, Ash.
“You don’t have to worry about the outcome–if you can’t save her, then it is simply her fate. If you do succeed in saving Faye, I’ll make sure no one in Javonbury will ever dare to trouble you again! You’ll also be regarded as the only son–in–law the Moore family will ever acknowledge!”
Josie had felt an inexplicable surge of faith in Ashton ever since meeting him. She was also convinced that he and Faye were destined for one another.
“You should reconsider it, Mrs. Moore! I’ve already stabilized Ms. Moore’s condition and slowed down the deterioration of her vitals. Any interference from an amateur could cause her to lose her life immediately!” Tristan cautioned, his brow furrowed in
