Natalie glanced curiously between Sylvia and Roxy, remarking, “I get the feeling there’s a story here.”
“This guy’s nothing but a pretty boy who’s leeching off women! Don’t let him ruin your evening, Ms. York,” Calvin chimed in with a sneer. He couldn’t resist putting Ashton down the moment he saw him.
“We can forget about getting acquainted. You’re not worthy of making our acquaintance! Let’s head in, Nat. Don’t waste time on a nobody,” Hank said.
He had a poor impression of Ashton, especially when he saw the way Sylvia came to his defense. That only made him even less willing to show Ashton any form of courtesy.
“Let’s go,” Natalie said after glancing at Ashton one last time.
But at the very next moment, much to everyone’s shock, Ashton took a step forward. He’d somehow managed to slip past Hank, approach Natalie, and pluck off one of her hairs with two fingers.
“How dare you!” Hank snarled as he quickly pulled Natalie behind him.
“Ashton! What do you think you’re doing? Ms. York is an honored guest of mine. How dare you offend her like this!

Roxy’s anger flared, disdain rising in her heart. She hated him from the bottom of her soul. Why had she waited so long to divorce him?
Even Sylvia was dumbfounded, but she firmly declared, “There’s no need to overreact like that, Roxy. Ashton just wants to get acquainted with Ms. York. You don’t need to get so jumpy.”
“Anyone who dares offend Nat must pay the price! I’m going to slap the crap out of you!” Hank snapped.
Eyes blazing, he raised his arm to slap Ashton in the face.
Calvin immediately looked positively giddy. Surely Ashton would be humiliated if he got slapped in public! Without the slightest bit of hesitation, Sylvia darted in front of Ashton protectively.
However, before the slap could land—and even before Ashton made a move of his own–Isaac came rushing over. He grabbed Hank’s wrist before asking with a menacing expression, “Shall I cripple him, Mr. Gray?”
“Hey! Let go of me!” Hank demanded in fury, but he couldn’t shake Isaac off, no matter how hard he tried.
“Mr. Gray! Are you trying to antagonize me?” Natalie questioned, her expression turning icy. No one had ever dared to slight her like this before.
“Let go of him,” Ashton said.
“Got it, Mr. Gray.”
Isaac swiftly released Hank before coming over to stand beside Ashton. He was willing to do anything Ashton asked of him without question.
“I simply wanted to confirm something, Ms. York. I meant o offense.”
“And what were you trying to confirm?”
“I’m not at liberty to tell you right now, but if you’re interested, you can drop by Evermore Club later.”
“That won’t be necessary!” Natalie declared curtly. “I don’t care what you’re up to, but your actions today have displeased me greatly. I’m going to make one thing clear new.

“From this moment onward, Yorkshore Group will no longer be supplying any liquor to Evermore Club. I’m terminating all of our deals right here, right now. Let’s go!”
She then turned around and walked off.
Hank shot Ashton a fierce glower, while Calvin looked posively delighted at the turn of events.
Shaking her head, Roxy said, “You should watch yourself from now on, Ashton.”
“It’s fine, Ashton. Even if Evermore Club no longer has any business deals with Yorkshore Group, we can find other suppliers,” Sylvia said. She continued to support him unquestioningly.
Chuckling, Ashton asked, “Do you also think I acted recklessly earlier?”
“Certainly not! I’m sure you had your reasons. I have absolute trust in you!” Sylvia replied without hesitation.
Ashton felt a warmth in his heart. Previously, when he was still with Roxy, he always had to explain every little thing he wanted to do to her.
Perhaps this was the difference between a person who trusted him and one who didn’t–the presence of love and the absence of it.
Sara Lili is a daring romance writer who turns icy landscapes into scenes of fiery passion. She loves crafting hot love stories while embracing the chill of Iceland’s breathtaking cold.
