Chapter Sos
There wasn’t a trace of tension on Cassian’s face. He looked as if his victory were already assured.
The duel ten days from now would be his step out of the shadows and into the public eye. It would be the beginning of his rise. Ashton would be the first obstacle he removed on his path to the peak of the martial world.
Cassian had already planned everything. Now, he only needed to lure Ashton into the trap.
With a dark look in his eyes, Ashton replied, “I’ll fight you alone.”
“Just you?”
The crowd was shocked.
This time, Ashton’s opponent was Cassian, the heir of an ancient martial arts family. As the man who controlled both the criminal underworld and the establishment and was also a true divine realm expert, fighting him alone was nothing short of a death wish.
He glanced at Ashton and asked calmly, “Are you sure?”
“Ashton, I’ll fight at your side.”
Just as Ashton was about to speak, Leona rushed forward in a red dress and stopped beside him. Her voice was firm.
The moment she stepped close, his Drakell technique activated on its own. His Drakeborne lineage surged violently, and an urge
to consume her rose within him.
Ashton hadn’t expected Leona to step forward at a moment like this. The duel in ten days would decide life or death, and he had no intention of dragging anyone else into it. After all, this was his fight.
“Leona, you don’t need to do this,” he said in a low voice.
Leona responded firmly, “I’m a member of the Legion now. This fight isn’t just about whether you become King of Javonbury, but it concerns the fate of the legionnaires. I haven’t been with the organization long, but I stand by its principles.
“Or do you think I’m not strong enough? I’m not weaker than you.”
She lifted her chin and released her Wyvernborne aura. The peak semi–divine power surged outward, matching his pressure.
Ashton raised an eyebrow, then shook his head.
“Cassian isn’t easy to deal with,” he said quietly.
“If I go all out, even someone in the divine realm won’t kill me easily. And when it matters, I can step in and back you up.”
Leona pouted, then continued, “If you don’t agree, I’ll leave the Legion.”
“This…” He hesitated and glanced toward Lawrence.
After a moment of consideration, Lawrence nodded.
“Fine,” Ashton responded. “But you may not even need to step in. I might win this fight on my own.”
He smiled, showing a line of white teeth as he met Leona’s clear gaze. An impulse stirred within him, and he forced himself to suppress it.
“What are you thinking?” Leona asked suddenly.
A flicker of unease passed through her. The Wyvernborne lineage in her blood flared without warning, and warmth spread through her body.

“Nothing,” Ashton said, averting his gaze.
“Ashton, include me in your fight as well.”
In the next instant, Faye stepped forward and stood at his right side. Her gaze locked with George’s across the arena, emotions churning.
The moment he saw her step forward, his face hardened.
“This is nonsense!” he snapped. “Faye, step back.”
“Dad, you’ve made your choice. I’m making mine.”
Faye stepped close to Ashton, her voice low and resolute. “Dad, Ashton is my man. You and Mom chose him as my fiance. If that’s the case, how could I not stand beside him?”
George’s brow tightened. His voice lowered, controlled but firm.
“If he dies in ten days, then your engagement with him will naturally end. And you will stay out of the fight over Javonbury.”
“That’s not happening,” she retorted. “Mom likes Ashton. If something happened to him, she’d never stop crying.”
She clenched her fists, resolve written clearly across her face.
“You don’t need to do this,” Ashton said, shaking his head. He had no desire to watch a father and daughter turn against each other, nor did he want to see their bond torn apart because of him.
