Chapter 88
Roxy snarled, “Ashton! If you had any real skill, you’d rely on your own abilities–not sell yourself to a woman and degrade yourself in an attempt to please her, just to achieve your goals!
“Do you really think this would make me think any better of you? What you’re doing will only make me feel even more contempt for you!”
Ashton frowned. Time and time again, he realized just how stupid he was back then for having fallen in love with such a brainless woman.
“Are you done?” Ashton asked calmly. “If you are, step aside.”
“I won’t let you get what you want, Ashton! Summit Lounge will only continue to do better than before. We’ll crush Evermore Club and make sure all of you never get to hold your heads up high. All your petty, meaningless tricks will be futile!” Roxy declared, lifting her chin proudly
She refused to show any weakness.
Snorting, Ashton responded derisively, “Do you still remember what I said, Roxy? Everything you have now was bestowed upon you by me, not the result of your own efforts. You’re nothing without me.”
“Hah!” Roxy scoffed angrily. “You think too highly of yourself, Ashton. Let me tell you this, then. Without you, I’ll only end up becoming even more successful. Summit Group will soar to even greater heights!”
“We’ll see about that. This is only the beginning of Summit Group’s downfall,” Ashton remarked with a sneer before walking past Roxy.
This marked the complete breakdown of their relationship.
“Roxy, remember the promise you made before. You’d better not regret your decision. And if you do end up crying in regret later on, make sure you do it in secret. Ashton won’t go soft on you just because of a few tears,” Sylvia commented.
She was absolutely delighted.
Previously, she’d been worried that there might be a chance for Ashton and Roxy to get back together. But from the looks of it now, she’d been worried for nothing.
Right now, it was more important for her to guard against Natalie winning Ashton over before she did!
Sylvia wondered if she should make the first move tonight. After all, her greatest advantage was the fact that she and Ashton were living together.
Her thoughts were already drifting.
Back inside Evermore Club, every employee was looking at Ashton like he was a hero. He’d only just taken over management of the club tonight, but he’d already solved its biggest crisis and put the place back on track.
They could see more and more customers coming into Evermore Club.
As long as they had the liquor supply sorted out and did some promotional work, it was only a matter of time before the business started booming for the club.
“Isaac, put out the word that Summit Group is no longer under my protection. It’s time to let them face some of the storm. I’d shielded her far too well before, so much so that she assumes everything that was a bestowment from me is actually the result of her own abilities,” Ashton said coolly, his eyes dark.
All this time, it was Ashton who’d been secretly backing up Summit Group, deterring all who might have their eye on Summit Group.
One example was Summit Lounge. Ashton was the one who’d intimidated the underworld bosses and showed them that he was supporting Summit Lounge from behind.
if not for that, why wouldn’t these ruthless men cause trouble for Summit Lounge and demand an exorbitant protection fee?
In the past, Ashton had done all of this in secret without taking any credit. Alas, all he got in return was Roxy growing distant from him and treating him indifferently.
Now that he and Roxy had filed for their divorce, it was time for Summit Group to weather these storms on its own. It was no longer his concern whether or not the company could handle it.
“I’ll sort that out right away.” Isaac replied
