The three bosses, Arlo, Nathan, and Oscar, turned toward Roxy at the same time. They were immediately stunned by her beauty and struck with the same thought. It was no wonder Ashton fell hopelessly in love with her.
Arlo took another look at Calvin, whom he was still holding by the throat. It became even harder for him to understand Roxy’s choice.
“Since you’re here, Ms. Sloan, let’s talk,” Arlo said before flinging Calvin to the side.
Calvin crashed onto the floor, letting out an anguished howl. He struggled for a bit before managing to scramble to his feet.
After staggering over to Roxy, he hissed quietly, “These thugs have no sense of decency at all! Once I get more powerful, I’ll make them pay for this!”
“Didn’t you confidently say you could handle this situation, Mr. Emerson?” Anna couldn’t resist remarking snidely. She was starting to miss having Ashton around.
As far as she could remember, Summit Group had faced several crises before, but each one always ended with Ashton stepping in to resolve everything for them.
“How should I know that these thugs would be so unreasonable? They’re all a bunch of uncouth brutes, just like Ashton!” Calvin snarled through gritted teeth.
“You’re the one who’s incompetent, but you pretend like—”
“That’s enough. Stop talking about it!” Roxy snapped, feeling quite frustrated as she cut Anna off.
Forcing herself to smile, she addressed the three men, “This isn’t a conducive place for us to have a chat, gentlemen. Why don’t we step into my office?”
“Let’s just talk here, Ms. Sloan,” Arlo flatly rejected the idea. “We don’t plan on leaving until this is settled.” Roxy’s expression darkened. These men weren’t even willing to show her the tiniest bit of courtesy. Clearly, they had no intention of allowing Summit Lounge to operate its business as usual.
Tamping down her anger, she questioned, “Haven’t we been getting along just fine all this while, gentlemen? We all minded our own business. Why have you come here tonight and ruined the peace between us?”
“Do you really not know why, Ms. Sloan, or are you just playing dumb?” Arlo retorted with an amused snort.
“Please enlighten me, Mr. Ortega.”
“A certain someone was previously watching over Summit Lounge, and we had no choice but to show him some respect. But now? No one’s protecting the place anymore.
“We earn our living in this area, so it’s only natural for us to come to you for some assistance in this matter, Ms. Sloan. Otherwise, how are our people supposed to feed their families?” Arlo stated matter–of–factly.
Roxy sighed inwardly. At last, she got a taste of how tough things were after getting a divorce from Ashton.
When he was still around, none of the underworld factions dared to cross Summit Lounge. Now that the divorce

had been filed and Isaac, along with his men, had resigned, Summit Lounge became a prime target for these people.
She knew they wouldn’t subsist unless they got something significant in return.
After contemplating in silence for a moment, Roxy said curtly, “I’m afraid you came to the wrong place, gentlemen. We at Summit Lounge aren’t pushovers!”
The atmosphere instantly turned cold, but Arlo replied indifferently, “We’re fully aware of what you’re capable of, Ms. Sloan–though I’m afraid you’ve overestimated yourself. If you don’t believe me, feel free to call someone over to resolve this situation for you.
“If you’re able to do that, we’ll leave right away!”
Roxy’s expression hardened. She considered a few possibilities but rejected them all.
The people from the criminal underworld were the most difficult to deal with. Even if she called the police and had them arrested, they’d walk free in a few days and start causing trouble again.
She could hire a bunch of experts to drive them out. However, that would escalate the situation into a full–blown conflict. The moment those floodgates opened, the situation would still persist, unless she was able to somehow subdue them completely.
This was the reason why Roxy didn’t want to completely burn her bridges with them.
It was at this very moment that she began to recall Ashton’s merits–and realize that he wasn’t completely useless. Could it be true that he’d kept her too well–protected in the past?
Anna leaned in and whispered to Roxy, “Ms. Sloan, why don’t you ask Mr. Gray for help? I’m sure he still cares about you. Even though you two have your issues right now, as long as you admit your mistakes, he certainly won’t stand by and do nothing to help you.
“Otherwise, if this stalemate continues, Summit Lounge will suffer greatly.”
