Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 177

“What did you just say?”

Wiona’s voice was barely more than a whisper, but the shock in it was impossible to miss. She stared at the man in front of her, wide-eyed and speechless. For a moment, she thought she might have misheard him. There was no way he’d just said something so outrageous.

Sure, she was planning to divorce Jace. That was a given. But did Conrad have any idea what he was saying right now?

“Conrad… what on earth did they give you? Are you out of your mind? Did you completely lose it?”

He didn’t answer. Whatever antidote he’d taken, it was clearly messing with him. His face was flushed, eyes unfocused, and after that wild statement, he just slumped forward, his head landing on her shoulder.

Wiona froze. The heat from his forehead seeped right through her clothes, snapping her back to reality. He was out cold. She gritted her teeth and, using every bit of strength she had, managed to lower him to the floor. Being pregnant, there was no way she could drag him any farther. At least she was finally free.

She stood there for a second, breathing hard, one hand on her belly. Her heart was still racing.

“He was just talking nonsense,” she muttered, almost trying to convince herself.

Seeing him passed out was actually a relief. Thankfully, the carpet would keep him from getting too hurt from the fall. She was about to get out of there when she caught sight of him—his clothes all rumpled, and... well, there was no mistaking the very obvious bulge under his robe.

Wiona’s face burned. She quickly slapped her cheeks to snap herself out of it, hesitated for a moment, then decided she couldn’t just leave him like that. If he caught a chill on the floor, would he wake up remembering everything and blame her for it?

Without looking too closely, she grabbed a blanket, tossed it over him, and dashed out of the room.

She leaned against the door, taking a minute to steady her breathing. Then she hurried off down the hall. As she turned the corner, a maid came rushing toward her, looking flustered and a little guilty.

“Ms. Morgan,” the maid said, keeping her head down and stepping aside.

Wiona didn’t think much of it. She nodded and walked past. The maid let out a shaky sigh. Once Wiona was out of sight, the maid turned back toward the room. She hesitated only a second before reaching for the doorknob. But before she could open it, a cool voice stopped her in her tracks.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

The maid jumped, spinning around to see Wiona standing there, her eyes sharp and suspicious. The color drained from the maid’s face.

“I… I was just sent to ask Mr. Sullivan if he needed… um, if he needed…” The words stumbled out, her cheeks bright red as she stared at the floor.

Wiona stepped closer. “Needed what, exactly? Don’t try to lie. I can just go ask Libby and find out the truth. You were sneaking around outside Mr. Sullivan’s door, looking shifty. Do you really want me to spell it out?”

Alice was crying when Wiona found her. The moment she saw Wiona, she reached out with both arms, sobbing even harder.

“Wiona, it hurts...”

Wiona’s heart clenched when she saw Alice’s forehead—there was a cut, already stitched up, but still red and angry. She hurried over and wrapped her arms around Alice, trying to soothe her.

Alice sniffled. “There were stars and a moon in the water. I wanted to catch the moon for my brother and the stars for you. But it was so cold, and I got hurt...”

Donna, standing close by with tears in her eyes, said gently, “Alice, that was just a pond. The things you see in there aren’t real. You even went out there in your sleep. It must have hurt a lot, huh?”

Alice’s illness sometimes made her act like a little girl. Moments of clarity were rare. If things kept going like this, she could end up getting herself into even more dangerous situations.

Wiona looked at Alice, her heart aching. She felt more than just sympathy or pity. There was a burning anger toward the kidnappers who had done this—who had ruined Alice’s life.

And when she thought about Conrad, her heart clenched even tighter. He’d gone through the same nightmare as a child. He had to watch his little sister turn into someone so fragile and broken, getting worse every day, slipping further away from any hope of being saved.
