“That’s really a personal issue, so I can’t say much,” Remy replied. “But the Sullivans already have three of W’s original paintings. Trust me, he is genuinely looking for W.”
The waiter brought over plates of beautiful food, each dish more tempting than the last.
Wiona excused herself, saying she needed to make a call, though she mostly just wanted to step out for some air.
Right then, her phone rang. It was Tina, her voice bubbling with excitement. “Wiona, I’ve got everything ready for you!”
She dropped her voice, almost conspiratorial. “Do you think I could leak just a little something? Let everyone know Vivian is back and making waves?”
“Sorry, Tina, not this time,” Wiona said gently. “Let’s keep this set a secret for now. I want to give it as a gift.”
She paused, then smiled. “I’ll get you a new draft in a few days. We can meet up and really talk about my return to the design world.”
Tina was so excited she could barely stay on the line. “Thank goodness, Wiona! I can’t tell you how much we’ve missed you. The whole fashion scene has felt empty without you.”
“You’re Vivian, the genius designer! You became famous at sixteen. Every single collection sold out instantly. How many girls your age have that kind of talent?”
Wiona felt her cheeks grow warm at the praise. She pressed a finger to her lips, lowering her voice. “Tina, can you keep this between us?”
“Of course, I got carried away. Don’t worry, no one heard a thing,” Tina promised. “How about I swing by tomorrow and drop off everything? I haven’t seen you in forever. I really miss you.”
Wiona laughed softly. “Tomorrow’s perfect. See you then.”
She hung up, ready to head back to her table, but as she passed a private dining room, she caught a glimpse of two painfully familiar faces.
Kellen and Jace.
Just her luck. Even a dinner couldn’t go smoothly.
The sliding door wasn’t fully closed. Wiona hesitated, watching as the waiter disappeared down the hall.
Inside, Kellen’s voice was a low whine. “Jace, last night I went to the banquet as your secretary, and everyone thought I was just some mistress. How are you going to make it up to me? That was humiliating.”
Jace’s tone was warm, almost teasing. “Dinner isn’t enough?
“I even tried to give you a credit card, but you wouldn’t take it. So, what do you want? Whatever it is, if I have it, it’s yours.”
Kellen’s reply was full of hurt. “I was your real girlfriend, you know. If Wiona hadn’t shown up, we never would have been forced apart.
“So what if you married her? I don’t want you touching her.
Jace’s face changed immediately. He stood up, opening the door, but only saw a waiter preparing another tray.
“Was someone just outside?” Jace asked, his face dark.
“No, sir. Just a lady who seemed a little lost,” the waiter replied. “Mr. Salisbury, should I bring in the food now?”
Wiona made her way back to her own table. Remy sat there, staring at the untouched dishes.
She smiled. “Let’s eat.”
While Remy started in on the food, Wiona quickly texted Tina. [Tina, I thought it over. I’m in. Let’s do it your way.]
By that night, news that designer Vivian was making a comeback with a new collection of jewelry was already blowing up online.
A photo was making the rounds, too—a blurry shot of the corner of a finished piece. Even that tiny glimpse was enough to send Vivian’s fans into a frenzy.
Everyone wanted a piece of her comeback collection.
“This time it’s emerald! Vivian barely ever works with emerald. And she’s teamed up again with Gimu Studio, her only previous collaborator. The quality and collectability are going to be off the charts!”
