Summer looked completely lost. “After Dad woke up yesterday, I told him everything that happened while he was out, and I told him all about what you’ve done for him too. I even said that you’re starting to suspect Wilson, and I asked if Wilson was the one who made him fall. But Dad wouldn’t say a word. He just told me he’d tell you the truth when he saw you. Now he knows you’re coming but he’s disappeared. Wiona, I don’t get it. Why would he do that?”
Wiona’s eyes darkened. “He’s avoiding me. Or maybe… he’s got something he needs to do on his own.”
She could feel herself running out of options. She really didn’t want anything to happen to Cassian, and she knew she couldn’t handle this on her own anymore. Without hesitating, she pulled out her phone and called Conrad.
He picked up right away, sounding a little smug. “Missing your brand-new husband already?”
Wiona shot Summer a look, then stepped aside for some privacy. “It’s serious. Conrad, I need help. I have a problem. Can you track a taxi for me? Here’s the plate number…”
Conrad didn’t even hesitate. His wife was finally asking for his help, and there was no way he’d say no. “I’ll have Korey get in touch with you.”
The second she hung up, Korey’s call came through.
“Ma’am, congratulations! I’m so happy for you and Mr. Sullivan.”
Wiona couldn’t help but tease him. “Oh, so now you’re not blocking my number?”
Korey groaned. “Come on, that wasn’t my fault! You’ve got a husband who’s jealous and super possessive. But you can’t really blame him, can you? Took him twenty-seven years to find someone he really loves. Anyway, enough of that. Mr. Sullivan told me to help you, so I’m on it. I’ll talk to the tech team and track down that car for you right now…”
Less than a minute later, Korey was back. “Found it. Looks like the taxi is headed towards Birchwood North.”
Birchwood North?
Wiona didn’t know what Cassian was up to, but at least now they had a lead. They piled into the car and sped off in that direction.
Korey kept them updated as they drove. When the taxi finally stopped, he told them the name of the place. Wiona froze—it was a name she recognized instantly. Azure Court.
Her expression changed and Summer noticed right away. “What? Is there something weird about that place?”
Wiona glanced at her. “Summer, Azure Court… that’s the apartment complex where I just bought a place.”
Whether it was pure coincidence or Cassian had gone there on purpose, she couldn’t say.
When they arrived at Azure Court, they spotted Cassian standing at the gate, peering inside.
“Dad!”
Wiona’s stomach dropped. Something was seriously wrong. She quickly stepped outside, found the head doctor, and soon the whole medical team came in.
They ran a bunch of tests and finally gathered to share their results.
“He’s showing symptoms similar to Alzheimer’s, but there are some unusual things in his bloodwork. Please give us two days. We’ll have a more exact answer then.”
After the doctors left, Wiona returned to the room. She heard Cassian grumbling at Summer.
“Why’d you come back by yourself? Where’s your kid? Your husband is so busy, you shouldn’t be chasing after him all the time. If you can’t make it work, just get a divorce.”
Then he looked up and saw Wiona.
“So you finally showed up? I thought you’d forgotten about me already. You both got married and lost your heads. Are you even my daughter and my student? Don’t tell anyone you know me!”
He was scolding them both, clearly disappointed and annoyed.
Summer followed Wiona out, her face pale and drawn.
