Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 409

Wiona could only give a weary smile. It seemed like she was just never meant to get along with her mother-in-law. If things really were this bad, she wondered what Conrad would do, stuck between them. She could already picture him getting into a huge fight with Annette. And then what? Would they really stop speaking to each other for good? Wiona shook her head. She wanted to believe that Annette was just a convenient scapegoat. Maybe Annette wasn't even that involved. Still, no matter what the truth was, the most important thing right now was to find her.

Nikolai shook his head. “There’s no signal in this courtyard.” He glanced at Wiona. “Please wait here, ma’am. I’ll step outside and see what I can do.” He hurried out of the room.

Wiona grabbed her mug and downed several gulps, hoping it would smother the anger burning inside her. As she tried to collect herself, a sudden crash came from the next room.

“Please… I’m begging you…”

“Let me go…”

“Wiona! Give me the antidote! Please, give it to me!”

It was the fake Annette, slamming her fists against the door in a panic. She’d already looked unstable before, and after Nikolai’s kick, she barely had the strength to drag herself to the door. With the door locked from the outside, she was trapped, too weak to do anything except plead. Her voice trembled with fear.

“Did you get a message out?” she asked.

“There’s a weak signal outside the courtyard,” Nikolai replied. “I saw some people coming this way, so I only had time to send a location and a quick note.” Then he added, “Ma’am, those people are in the courtyard now.”

Wiona instantly knew who he meant. The five men that fake Annette and whoever was behind her had set up. They’d been meant to ruin her, to drag her into hell. The men were all different. Tall, short, thin, heavyset. Some were old, some young. Some even looked decent, others not at all. It was like they’d been picked to cover every possibility.
