Right now, Sophie felt completely out of her depth. Her nerves were still rattled, and she just couldn't calm down. Things had spiraled way beyond what she ever expected.
Amaya was such a dumbass. Sophie had set everything up so carefully. All Amaya had to do was stick to the plan and Wiona would have been trapped with no way out. Instead, Amaya had ruined everything. Sophie couldn't believe she'd ever trusted her. Amaya was good for nothing except making things worse.
Sophie was dying to figure out what had gone wrong, but it wasn't the right moment. The situation was a mess, and her only option was to make sure she had an escape route. So, she kept her tone light and tried to gently lead Amaya. “Isn’t my aunt supposed to be next door getting her treatment?” she asked. “What exactly happened out there?”
She frowned as she took in Amaya’s messy clothes and bruised skin. “And why do you look like that? Who hurt you?”
“Amaya, you don’t have to be scared. I’m a lawyer,” Sophie added, voice soft but firm. “And we’re all here now. You’ve got your friends with you. No one’s going to hurt you again.”
Giana, picking up on Sophie’s lead, turned to Amaya too. “Ms. Clements is right. Just tell us what happened. And what about those people tied up in the courtyard? Why did Ms. Morgan bring her crew and start fighting with ours?”
