The way people looked at the four young men from the Blue family had changed. Now their eyes were filled with curiosity.
Night had already fallen. Snow drifted down gently, covering Stonehill in a fresh, white layer as the sun disappeared behind the hills.
The Simpson family’s banquet had turned into a total mess. Thankfully, it didn’t end in complete disaster.
Giana managed to find another chance to approach Wiona and apologize, her tone earnest and sincere.
“Mrs. Sullivan, I let my arrogance blind me. My own pride and prejudice made me misjudge things. I invited trouble into our home and almost put you in real danger. I’m so sorry you had to go through that and be treated unfairly.”
“Next time, the Simpson family will invite you and your friends properly. Please let us make it up to you.”
“And when you come, I’ll make sure Maddy is there too. I’ll personally apologize again.”
“Also, from now on, I’ll take care of Wiona’s health, free of charge, for the rest of my life.”
“Please, forgive me for what I’ve done.”
That was just like Giana. Even with her high status, she could swallow her pride and bow her head if it meant keeping the peace. No wonder she was the one running the Simpson family.
Her brother and three younger brothers just stood nearby, watching her with anxious eyes.
Wiona looked over at Madison and then nodded, accepting Giana’s apology.
She stepped forward and gently helped Giana stand up. “Giana, you really don’t have to be so formal.”
“But I do accept your apology.”
“Please take care of Maddy. She’s my sister.”
It was a clear message. Madison was still living with the Simpsons. If things got ugly, Madison’s life here would get miserable. But after today, Madison had proved herself. Now Giana and the others would have to treat her differently.
Wiona didn’t argue with the Simpsons anymore. When the police arrived and took Amaya away, Annette looked like she wanted to say something. But when she met Conrad’s icy gaze, she just sighed and kept quiet.
As they were leaving, Madison caught up to them outside.
“Wiona, this is the medicine Giana made for you,” she said, handing over a small package.
“Don’t forget to finish all three doses. That’s the only way to get rid of the toxins in your body. It’s important for you and the babies.”
Wiona smiled and tucked a stray lock of Madison’s hair behind her ear.
“Are you sure you’ll be all right here?” she asked, still worried.
Madison blinked. “I’ll be fine. I mostly stay in my mentor’s courtyard anyway. I hardly ever go out.”
“But I’ll have a few days off for the New Year. I’ll come visit you.”
After their goodbyes, the Sullivan Group’s cars finally pulled out from the Simpson family’s gate.
The Simpsons stood outside, watching the cars disappear into the night. When the last one was gone, they all let out a breath they’d been holding.
It was a close call, but after Tristan’s help and their sincere apology, the Simpson family had managed to get through the crisis without any lasting damage.
As soon as the guests left, the Blue brothers got the news.
“That fake heiress is actually kind of interesting,” Ryan said, the youngest of the four. He was handsome, with blue eyes and long hair tied back in a low ponytail.
“Come on, which pretty girl doesn’t look familiar to you?” Tyler, the second brother, rolled his eyes.
“Still, I’m warning you, don’t even think about her. Conrad Sullivan is not someone you want to mess with.”
“Our family may be powerful, but Conrad is ruthless in business. Cross him, and you’re basically poking a lion. Our whole family would pay for it.”
Mateo, the eldest brother, looked at Ryan with a thoughtful expression. “You think she looks like someone from the past, right?”
Someone from the past?
Who could that be?
