Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 50

“With Kellen hurt the way she is, she’d be better off staying on the first floor.” Kellen had a thick bandage around her head and her left leg was in a cast. Yesterday’s car accident hadn’t spared her at all.

Wiona thought back to her own crash. Not once had Jace shown any concern.

As soon as Wiona spoke, Kellen’s eyes turned red and she dropped her gaze. “That’s what I said too. The first floor is fine for me. But Jace insisted the second floor would be better, so he could keep an ear out if I needed anything.” She looked over at Jace. “Pplease, just let me stay downstairs. It’s already a lot to ask Mrs. Salisbury to move out of her room. I’ll be fine by myself on the first floor...”

Jace slammed his fork down on the table, the sound echoing in the dining room. He shot Wiona a sharp glare. “Wiona, when did you get so cold? You used to be thoughtful and kind. This is just petty. Do you have any idea? If Kellen hadn’t risked herself yesterday, I’d be the one in that hospital bed now. As my wife, you can’t even thank her, and now you’re refusing to give up a room? I’m honestly disappointed in you.”

Once, that look on his face would have shattered her. Now, it barely stung.

Wiona picked up her fork and tossed it to the floor. “I said no. My room, my bed. If she wants to sleep there, she’s going to have to step over my body first.”

There was real steel in her voice, the kind Jace rarely saw. Was she really going to stand up to him like this?

He let out a bitter laugh and waved for George. “Go upstairs. Move her things to the west wing. Put all of Kellen’s stuff into her room.”

“Yes, sir.” George nodded, and the staff hurried away.

Jace didn’t even glance at Wiona’s pale face as he leaned over, lowering his voice. “Wiona, this is the Salisbury family. You don’t run things here. You need to remember who’s in charge.”

Wiona didn’t even turn her head. She grabbed another fork and finished the last bite of her roll, chewing slowly and deliberately. She’d wanted to push Jace, to see just how little she mattered here. The whole time, neither Grandma Grace, who always said she’d stand up for Wiona, nor Alona, who loved to watch the drama, showed up. Not one person came to her side.

It was worse than she’d imagined. Even Grandma Grace wanted to force her hand, to make her cave and win Jace back.

Alona’s true colors came out soon after, sending a chill through Wiona.

“Ma’am, the smell in here is awful. You can’t stay—it’s not safe for the baby,” Molly said, her eyes red and watering. Even she couldn’t stand the stinging in her throat. She pulled Wiona out, shaking with anger. “I asked around. It was Alona who picked out the wardrobe and bed herself. If she didn’t want Kellen here, why not just say it? Why would she do something so cruel?”
