“Let go of me…”
Carter yanked his arm away and shot her a look so cold it could freeze. “Are you really going to keep making a scene here? Do you want to embarrass Ryan in front of everyone?”
He nodded toward their son. “Just look at him. Because of you, how’s he supposed to get along with his brothers now? Or with Wiona?”
“Paige, you’re not a kid anymore.”
“If you keep being this stubborn and thoughtless, you’ll get nothing in this family.”
“And I’ll give up everything that comes with the Blue name.”
Paige stared at him, completely stunned. She just couldn’t believe he’d say something like that.
She broke down, tears streaming down her face. “Carter, you bastard”
Carter didn’t bother arguing. He just grabbed her arm and walked off with long, fast strides, not even looking back.
Off to the side, Mateo and his brothers stood there, mouths hanging open.
Their family had never had a daughter before, so this kind of drama was totally new to them. Wiona’s way of handling things? Next level.
Seriously, just a couple of sentences and Paige, who was always so bossy and impossible, was suddenly speechless. Carter had never called her out in front of everyone like this before.
This was definitely a first.
Right then, everyone realized what it meant to have a daughter in the house.
Except for Ryan, who looked a mix of embarrassed and awkward, the other four brothers were secretly thrilled.
Finally, someone who could stand up to Paige.
Life at home was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
Grandma Julia didn’t seem fazed at all. She patted Wiona’s hand and smiled. “Wiona, did that scare you?”
“Your grandpa just has a big voice, don’t mind him. He’s all bark and no bite, really. Nothing to be afraid of.”
Just a big voice? Grandma, that was much more than a loud voice. Grandpa had Paige crying her eyes out two seconds ago.
Everyone else in the Blue family tried not to laugh. They all knew how powerful Grandpa’s “big voice” could be.
But, of course, no one was about to argue with Grandma. They all just nodded along.
With one look from Grandma Julia, the oldest son Mike and the second son Zachary hurried over, all smiles, ready to introduce themselves.
“Wiona, I’m Mike, Mateo and Tatum’s dad. And this is my wife, Nicole.”
Mike and Zachery were so moved, they both pulled out gifts they’d clearly been saving for this moment and handed them to Wiona.
Before she could say a word, both aunts pressed more giftboxes into her hands.
“Wiona, it’s our first time meeting, and we wanted to give you a little something. We hope you like it.”
Wiona peeked inside and her eyes widened. Both were jewelry boxes.
Inside one was a pink diamond pendant, the stone so big it looked almost unreal.
In the other box, a pair of pink emerald earrings glinted up at her, the color rich and the craftsmanship beautiful.
Wiona quickly tried to hand the boxes back. “These are way too expensive. I can’t take them. I really appreciate the thought. Please, you don’t have to give me such lavish gifts.”
But the two aunts wouldn’t hear of it.
“What, are you looking down on us?”
“Wiona, honey, my family is in mining. Don’t worry, I have plenty of stones like this lying around. I treats them like regular pebbles.”
“Come on, take it. You don’t have to be shy with your aunts, okay?”
