**Raindrops Kissing Silent Streets – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 16**
With a swift and decisive motion, Adam seized Renee’s hand, pulling her close to him. His voice was laced with urgency as he turned to Kayla. “I’m really sorry, Kayla. Renee might just be feeling overwhelmed right now. You—”
But before he could finish his sentence, Renee broke free from his hold once more, a fierce determination igniting in her eyes. Without a moment’s hesitation, she snatched the thermos from Adam’s friend and swung it with all her might, striking Kayla’s head with a sickening thud.
Bang!
“I’m not triggered. I just want her dead.”
Each word dripped with venom, landing like a slap that echoed through the tense air.
Renee had completely unraveled.
In the heart of Harborview City, the Spencer family stood as the most formidable among the elite families, their influence stretching across the city like a shadow. Though they shared a long-standing acquaintance with the Grahams, crossing them was a risk the Grahams could not afford to take. Just as the Spencers were welcoming the Grahams into a significant project, preparing for an alliance that could elevate both families, Renee’s violent outburst shattered the fragile peace.
Blood began to flow from Kayla’s forehead, painting half of her face a deep crimson red.
Adam, in a fit of rage, yanked Renee back, his hand connecting sharply with her cheek.
“Are you out of your mind, Renee?”
The force of the slap left her cheek ablaze, her head snapping to the side. Disoriented and weakened, she stumbled backward, colliding with the wall, the pain momentarily stunning her into silence.
“Kayla? Don’t panic. I’m taking you to the hospital,” Julian said, his voice tight as he glared at Adam with barely concealed fury. “I’ll deal with you later!”
“Julian, please hurry! I’m terrified it’ll leave a scar! I can’t bear the thought of being disfigured!” Kayla cried, her sobs laced with genuine fear.
The reality of her situation weighed heavily on her. She had never anticipated that Renee would unleash such madness!
Their friends stood frozen in disbelief, the scene unfolding before them like a nightmare.
Adam was seething, his anger palpable as he pointed an accusing finger at Renee.
“Go apologize to Kayla! Right now!”
He scoffed, his disdain evident. “You need to reflect on your actions!”
With that, he turned sharply on his heel and stormed away, leaving a trail of tension in his wake.
The others exchanged a few half-hearted words of sympathy with Renee before reluctantly following Adam.
Earlier that very afternoon, while they had been lost in the thrill of gambling at the casino, Adam had received a frantic call from the hospital. They informed him that Renee had been found adrift at sea, struggling to breathe and on the brink of death. He was urged to come immediately.
At the time, Adam hadn’t given it much thought. He assumed she had simply lost her way from the instructor, perhaps overexerting herself and running low on oxygen.
He figured the medical staff often exaggerated situations for dramatic effect.
Renee, still cradling her cheek, watched Adam storm away, her heart feeling oddly detached. It didn’t ache as she expected; instead, it felt numb, devoid of the gut-wrenching pain she had envisioned. All that remained was a cold, hollow void within her.
A bitter chuckle escaped her lips.
So this was the man she had devoted years of her life to, the one who had consumed her youth and dreams.
