Divorced My Cheating Husband, Married A Billionaire novel Chapter 97

'The woman of Adrian's dreams?' Brian stiffened in his seat, hearing Adrian say that on the stand. He echoed in his head, 'He married the woman of his dreams?'

Brian felt like he lost his brain cells altogether. He couldn't process anything.

"Who is it, Brian?" Krista asked curiously. "If Adrian is married to Leni, how come you said Daisy was the girl he loved?"

"I -" Brian's gaze landed on Riley. His brows were meeting, and he sensed his heart racing. 'Adrian and Riley? Could it be?'

'No, it can't be,' he quickly denied it, seeing Riley's relaxed expression.

Since Riley remained unaffected, Brian told Krista, "I honestly thought it was Leni. Maybe he did marry Daisy. Adrian and I had lost touch after his accident. So, we are not that close anymore."

"To my wife, who is with us tonight," Adrian resumed. "Thank you for being with me."

While Adrian was speaking, Brian felt his hands were turning cold. His eyes panned back and forth from Adrian to Riley, wondering if it could really be.

On stage, Adrian resumed, still referring to his wife, "You are now the constant source of my strength. Thank you for accepting me despite my imperfections. I love you -"

Unfortunately for Brian, Adrian suddenly lost his voice. He was tapping on the microphone, and Brian understood it was a technical problem.

"Fuck," he muttered without realizing he spoke his mind. The suspense was absolutely killing Brian!

"Everything okay, Babe?" Claire asked. "Who is he, by the way? Adrian King?"

"Haven't you heard of The King's Enterprises? The King family is the richest here in Halliport. They are billionaires," Luke educated Claire. "Adrian King is the heir of the company, at least the biological one."

"Oh, wow," Claire remarked.

While Brian heard Claire's inquiry, he focused on Adrian. Brian could not put a finger to it. He was so unsettled while waiting for the microphone to work again.

"Sorry," Adrian said on stage. "A technical problem on my closing."

"Oh, my god, Riley looks like a love-sick fool," Krista mocked out of nowhere. "Riley, didn't you hear? Adrian is married to -"

"Shut up, will you, Krista! I'm listening!" Brian found it hard to scold Krista. She was starting to get on his nerves.

With Krista's mouth zipped Brian paid close attention to Adrian's words. The man said, "Again, to my wife. You are now the source of my strength. Thank you for accepting me despite my imperfections. Thank you for loving me. I love you, Riley."

'I love you, Riley.' The words that escaped Adrian's lips rang in Brian's head. He was so shocked that he slumped back in his seat. Slowly, he could feel his blood draining out of him, and even his nails turned white.

"That billionaire and Riley?" Claire softly muttered beside Brian, a hint of disbelief reflected in her tone.

Around their table, the audience cheered Adrian on; some snapped their heads and found Riley, but Brian and his friends fell silent.

Jaws were dropping, and eyes were rounding. Brian turned to Krista, who looked like she was on the verge of crying.

"I - it can't be," Krista remarked. She sneered at Riley and said, "You? Riley?"

"Riley? You and Adrian?" Jean echoed, but unlike everyone's stupefied expression, she seemed excited for Riley.

Despite the reactions around her, Riley's expression remained serene. She maintained her smile as she addressed Jean, "Yes, I am married to Adrian King."

"Thank you, Honey," Adrian said to Riley.

After witnessing Adrian and Riley having a brief affectionate moment, the man turned to Brian. Adrian asked, "What's wrong with you, Brian? You look like you are about to die."

Brian gulped. He wiped the sweat off his forehead with his hand and let out a nervous laugh. He replied, "You are funny, Adrian."

"You know what they say," Adrian said nonchalantly. "Jokes are half meant. Do you remember what you promised me four years ago, Brian?"

Well, of course, he remembered. Adrian’s presence brought him back to that very scene. Four years ago, Adrian had warned him, 'If you hurt her, I will be the first person to take her away from you. Do you understand that?'

Chills ran down his spine. He recognized that after many years, Adrian had never gotten over Riley. And now that Adrian had married Riley, what were his plans?

'Is Adrian going to punish me for divorcing Riley?' Brian silently wondered.

"Really? Adrian married Riley? But why?" Out of nowhere, Krista spoke, and Brian thanked the heavens that she was foolish enough to interject.

Krista looked irritated as she asked, "Adrian, aren't you bothered by the fact that Riley is a divorcee?"

Sadly for Brian, Adrian's piercing gaze stayed on him. His eyes narrowed as he asked, "And whose fault is that, Brian? How did Riley become a divorcee?"

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Don't you know, Brian? When you cheat on a good woman, Karma makes you end up with trash," Adrian said before his stare slowly anchored on Claire.

'What the hell,' Brian mused. 'Did Adrian just call Claire trash?'
